About Kath'S Piano Room

My name is Kath Hutchinson and I am a qualified and experienced piano teacher based in central Nottingham

Since childhood I have had a deep passion for music and piano playing and enjoy sharing and passing that on to others. I believe that creating and playing music is a deeply enriching experience for young and old alike and so my aim as a piano teacher is to help each person find and fulfil their own unique musical potential and ambitions

I offer individual and group lessons to children and adults in my dedicated piano room. As well as two top-of-the range instruments it has many facilities and a vast wealth of music that make learning not only more effective but also a lot of fun!

Please do look around my site which gives details about my teaching practice and further information about learning the piano.

Feeling a very happy piano teacher today—had a wonderful day at the Purcell School doing some CPD on advanced performance and on return home opened the post to discover that my first exam entry ( since moving to this new area) has achieved a very high distinction in her initial exam. Congratulations to her!!

What a wonderful inspiration for myself and all my young pupils who played in their first ever concert yesterday.

A weekend very well spent at Penelope Roskell’s 2 day course on piano technique. Many areas of technique were covered from beginner to advanced - so have come away with lots of inspiration for all my students regardless of their age or level of playing.

I spent yesterday in Oxford at an inspiring and thought- provoking piano teachers conference run by the innovative Curious Piano Teachers group to which I belong. An international panel of speakers gave talks on the role of rote teaching in pupils learning; innovative ways to develop crucial sight reading skills and the pivotal role parents can have in helping their child reach their full potential as pianists. It was a privilege to meet and talk with Katherine and Julie, the authors of the new Piano Safari method which is increasingly taking the piano teaching world by storm and as you may know, I am a great fan of and was one of the first teachers in the UK to begin using before it became more widely known.

What a lovely first workshop and mini-concert with my new older pupils- thank you! Well done on your first trio performance of Jingle Bells- it was lots of fun and you did so well to perform it after such a short practice together. I look forward to many more! Congratulations also to the younger siblings who had their first public performance after just one term of lessons. I am very excited to be teaching you all.

Have been enjoying all my lovely leaving cards since moving in, but have decided I must bite the bullet and take them down today.😔. Thank you Nottingham students for some wonderful years working with you and great memories- brought a lump to my throat thinking of you all.😕 but thank you to my new Sunningdale students!! -- I am enjoying getting to know each one of you and look forward to sharing lots of great music together and creating new musical memories for us all. 😀

Superb EPTA UK conference. Sumptuous accommodation and facilities, superb food, inspiring and varied programme with many international speakers, and wonderful company with likeminded enthusiastic fellow piano teachers from all over the country. Lovely to catch up with Nottingham colleagues and make new links and friendships with others. Thank you EPTA UK

Last adult piano circle in Nottingham. Bit late posting as the move rather got in the way but better late than never! Must admit, I am missing all my students very much, but this picture brings back great memories of many happy years together. Btw, there is one imposter!- Angie brought her boy friend along to listen,- at least that's what he thought he was going to do...but we soon had him performing a beautiful improvisation at the piano! well done!!- hope you've been giving him some more lessons Angie!

Thank you to all my lovely pupils and parents for such a special farewell summer concert. I shall remember you all with great fondness and very happy memories of marvellous piano playing and happy teaching. Sorry you aren't all on the photo, but you are not, and will not be forgotten!

Congratulations to Mia and Karam on their recent exam results. Both receive very high merits in Grade 6 and 4 respectively. Well done!

Huge congratulations to Paige for coming first in the preparatory class at the EPTA regional finals in Birmingham. Fabulous playing where her ' huge dynamic range' and great characterisation in her pieces was especially commented on. Well done Paige!
