Katy Berwick Counselling Description

I work in an integrative way; this means that I use a variety of therapeutic approaches to suit you as a unique individual or couple. Since 2012, I have experience of counselling people with a variety of mental health issues; such as addiction, trauma, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety and bereavement.

From 2012 - 2019, I specialised in supporting people with any form of eating disorder through the Bath-based charity Focus Counselling.

Since 2010, I have worked with people with dementia and their carers in a health and social care setting. I have undertaken a wide range of training in this area, providing me with a strong understanding of how dementia and the role of caring can impact on a person’s life. Combined together my experience led me to work for the counselling service for Alzheimer’s Support.

From my experience in working with people facing a life-changing diagnosis, I also have provided counselling for two charities: We Hear You and Penny Brohn UK; helping people with cancer and other terminal illness and their families.

Couples Counselling

My approach to couples therapy provides a safe space to explore the impact of conflict or impasse which may be a block to affection and intimacy. I will work with you to help you and your partner identify which needs are not being met, how these can be safely communicated and heard; working towards a healthier relationship and individual growth.

Couples therapy is not limited to romantic partners or spouses, but for any two people in a relationship, for example friends and family members.

Additional Skills

I offer creativity and artistic expression in counselling sessions as a means of self-exploration and reaching new understanding; as words can often limit our ability to express our feelings.

I am a “Dissociative-Friendly” therapist and can be found on the PODS (Positive Outcomes for Dissociative Survivors) register. This means that I am happy to work with people who experience dissociative symptoms from past traumas. More information about dissociative identity disorder and the register can be be found here – http://www. pods-online.org. uk /

Since 2012, I have been facilitating support groups for different client groups including, people with dementia, carers, people with eating disorders and young people with anxiety.

I have developed and delivered educational workshops for professionals working with people with dementia and people with eating disorders.

BACP Registration and Accreditation

I am a Registered and Accredited Member of BACP (MBACP Accred. ) and adhere to their Ethical Principles and Code of Practice.

BACP accreditation formally recognises the attainment of high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling practice. Current and prospective clients can therefore have even greater confidence when seeking therapy through my services.

Please note that on the BACP register I am listed with my full name – Katharine Berwick.
