FOR SALE Marantz Model 9 Mono Amplifiers These are original, not re-issues. In perfect operating condition. Both amplifiers were serviced and rebuilt by Audio Classics in Binghamton, NY. The only place I would trust to work on these outstanding vintage audio pieces. Technician George Melnyk is an expert in vintage Marantz amplifiers and his knowledge of the amps and rebuilding skills are second to none.
The amps were serviced and all out of spec or questionable parts were re...placed. The original design is still in tact with no modifications. The neatness and attention to detail of his work is hard to believe. Included with the auction are his detailed comments and test sheets. Something you won't get with many other vintage refurbishers. Believe the hype of the Model 9. Since being rebuilt, these are the most wonderful sounding amplifiers you are likely to hear. The depth and imaging from them is unbelievable. Even when paired average speakers and electronics, the placement and separation of instruments and vocals is so perfect. And with so much power to spare, these amps will help reproduce amazing realistic bass and tremendous mid range and highs.
I truly believe the Model 9 is the pinnacle of vintage amps. I've owned them all by now and to my ears these are the best. Of course no vintage amplifier will sound its best without restoration. I've heard these amplfiers before restoration and after. And it was after restoration that their amazing magic really came through. Cosmetically, these amps are in very nice condition. Particularly the faceplates are quite nice. The rear of the chassis are clean and in very good shape too. All lettering is 100%. There is some paint wear near where the tube cages rub against the chassis. But overall they are really very nice. This is a pair to actually use and not just to display. Unfortunately, I haven't had the space. So they've hardly been used at all since being rebuilt in 2007. You will not be disappointed in their performance. New or old, I've not heard a better amplifier. The tubes are exactly the tubes that were in the unit when sent to Audio Classics. Amp 1 has: (4) Mullard EL34 - test ok now but probably not a lot of life left in them (2) Telefunken 6DJ8 - nice, strong (1) GE 6CG7 - nice, strong
Amp 2 has: (4) Svetlana Winged C EL34 - strong (2) Mullard 6DJ8 - nice, strong (1) GE 6CG7 - nice, strong

• The No 512 is a solid piece of kit, it feels carved out of a slab of granite more than a collection of parts and sheet metal, though I wish it was more stylish. • The No 512 has one of the best, most refined and open top ends I've heard from a disc spinner in a long while. While I usually prefer a transport/DAC combo to achieve the best in digital two-channel audio, the No 512 makes a strong case for a single chassis solution, even if that chassis is a bit large and cumbersome. • The No 512's midrange is its party piece, possessing all the weight, poise and detail you'd expect from digital but never really achieved until now. I'm not going to say the No 512 is analog sounding for it's different, but rest assured it's every bit as good as the best vinyl rig I've heard - only far more user friendly. • The No 512's bass performance is solid though it does lack that last ounce of attack and slam, which only adds to the player's calm demeanor.
