We’re super excited to have teamed up with the ‘Dales Dippers’ to host ‘Dip Fest 2020’ this August. The ‘Dales Dippers Wild Swimming UK’ Facebook group was only founded in February 2019, but has seen phenomenal growth and now has almost 1700 members. Swaledale is a wild dippers dream with so many waterfalls and river pools within a mile of us (including one actually on site) so we’re delighted that they have chosen to host their festival here. The first 2 day event sold out within hours of it being announced and due to such high demand a second event is now being planned for later this August. As many of you will have seen, Swaledale has made the national news today with flash floods across the region. Just to reassure any guests who are coming to stay, we have not been affected at all as the problems are much further down the Dale, however when travelling to us it is best to avoid the B6270 from Richmond as that road has been impacted so diversions may be in place. You can still get to us via the A66 via Tan Hill, or over the Buttertubs from Hawes or along the B6270 approaching from Kirkby Stephen. It was our pleasure to welcome Karen and her family last week who run the family cycling website ‘Cycle Sprog’ and who stayed in a yurt whilst reviewing the Swale Trail on its suitability as a family friendly cycle route on behalf of the National Park. The following article gives their comprehensive review of the Trail, including photos and descriptions and whilst it is aimed at families it’s a great read for anyone thinking of having a go . Whilst you will see some parts ar...e quite challenging so not suitable for everyone, it is possible to miss out the hardest stretch and instead take the scenic country road route as far as Gunnerside and join the Trail from there :0) We’ve done both options so are happy to give our advice on which would be best for your group but whichever way you go the scenery is breath-taking. We’ve had a wonderful day testing out the new Mountain Bikes we’ve bought for guests to hire out, on the brand new ‘Swale Trail’. The trail is a 12 mile off road path which takes you all the way along Swaledale from Keld to Reeth, taking in some absolutely stunning scenery. The beginning of the trail does start with a climb but you’re rewarded with breath-taking views down the valley and then you descend to the half way point at Gunnerside where you can stop to refuel with a ...cake and a coffee at the tearooms or a pint at the pub. The second half of the trail is an easy 6 miles following the river until you arrive in Reeth, where we stopped for a fabulous lunch at the Buck Inn (proper homemade chips yum!). In total it took us a very enjoyable 2 and a half hours. You then have the option to return via the same route or simply hop on the bus with your bikes back to Keld. Alternatively you can do as we did and ride back on the trail as far as Gunnerside and then join the road, allowing you to stop in at Muker on the way. It really is a fantastic way to spend a day and see more of the area :0) We only have a limited number of bikes though so if you fancy giving it a go be sure to book early to avoid disappointment or for larger groups the Dales Bike Centre will bring all of the bikes you need to us for a small delivery charge. :0) www.keldbunkbarn.com

Exciting news! The brand new 'Swale Trail' is due for completion at the end of this month. The trail is an easy going mountain bike trail created along the length of Swaledale, between Keld and Reeth. It's a totally unique facility in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, being a valley bottom route 12 miles in length, of which 75% will be on traffic free tracks. To allow our guests to enjoy this fantastic addition to the Dale and explore even more of this beautiful area, we are looking at introducing mountain bikes for hire or if you prefer just bring your own and we'll provide you with free maps.
