Over 700 people drown in the UK and Ireland every year. In support of Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK Drowning Prevention Week (14 – 24 June) we're sharing some top tips to keep you safe, all-year-round.
• Take any warning or safety signs seriously – they are there for a reason
• Look out for trip or slip hazards around water and stick to proper pathways
... • River banks and cliff edges may be unstable and could give way, so stay a safe distance from the edge
• Raise the alarm by calling 999 if you see someone in trouble in water

We'd like to thank everyone who came along to New Romney Fire Station's fantastically fun Family Open Day on Saturday 15 June. Those who came along were the first in Kent to see our 'new look' Open Day events, and as part of the fun, visitors enjoyed the 'Hose the House Down' game, saw incredible fire demonstrations, explored four new zones and climbed aboard a fire engine. With over 1,200 visitors to the station, those attending also helped us raise over £1000 for the Fire Fighters Charity.
The next Open Day event will be held at Ramsgate's new fire station on 22 June from 11am until 3pm. Will you be coming along?

Areas of Kent could experience thunderstorms and heavy rain later on this evening and overnight. Please take care on the roads, and in the event of any flooding remember not to enter flood water, whether on foot or in a vehicle.

Father's Day celebrations may be over but you can still, and always, book a free Safe and Well visit for your dad at anytime. It's really simple and easy to do, with a typical visit taking around 45 minutes and includes the fitting of free smoke alarms where necessary. Head over to our website or give us a call. Just remember to quote KFRSFD when booking.

Every summer, our firefighters are called to out of control fires caused by barbecues and fire pits.
Using petrol to light them or leaving it unattended are two of the most common mistakes people make. When you're cooking on the barbecue or lighting a fire pit this summer, make sure you cook with safety in mind and follow our simple safety tips to ensure your barbecue runs smoothly: https://www.kent.fire-uk.org/…/a-z-of-s afety-wha…/barbecues/

Crews rescued a sheep stuck in the River Stour in #Chartham near Ashford Road at the weekend. Despite feeling a little sheepish after her ordeal, she was quickly back to feeding her lambs who watched on during the rescue.
