Yesterday marked the start of the second part of the year and serves as a perfect time for review and reflection. As part of that review why not take a look to see whether your employment policies and procedures are up to date. They really are worth taking the time to get right to protect your business and let employees know where they stand and what is expected.
If you need help drafting and putting some together or have some but would like to get them reviewed or updated get in touch and we can have a chat about how I can help. #smallbusinessbristol #smallbusiness #bristolindependents #bristolbusinessowners #smallbusinesses #toptiptuesday

Did you know that women can be put off from applying for jobs in male dominated industries because of “restrictive” application forms? Ultimately this means that you may not be getting the best candidates applying to work with you. If you are worried that this may be happening to your business then try rewording your job adverts and instead of having lists of “must have” skills focus on asking for transferable skills gained not only from working in a variety of sectors but also outside work activities.

So the festive period is upon us and along with preparing for the big day many businesses will be looking forward to celebrating with their employees at a Christmas party. Sounds fun but did you know that as an employer you are liable for what happens at a work Christmas party? Well you’d be right to assume that you are.
This week, in a timely reminder, the employment tribunal upheld an employee’s case of constructive dismissal where her employer failed to adequately investig...ate her complaints after a colleague strangled her at a Christmas party leaving her with serious facial paralysis.
So if you do have a Christmas party coming up I’d definitely suggest:
- Putting a policy in place which clearly sets out the standard of conduct expected (if you don’t already have one); - Making sure you thoroughly investigate any grievances or complaints arising from the party - And thinking twice before offering a free bar!

‪After seeing the video footage showing this photo being staged I am absolutely not surprised that Ryanair dismissed those involved. Their actions, whether intended or not, have caused irreparable damage to Ryanair’s reputation. #ryanair #dismissal #emplaw‬
