It was nice to get off the mark for the season yesterday as we enjoyed a double. Today we send 2 down to Nottingham for their seasonal return.
Aloysious Lilius (T.Eaves) goes in the 5f Handicap (2.00). He had some decent form last season with one win to his name but there was some inconsistent runs also. Stronger proposition this year and he can improve this year. Very open and competitive race but hopefully he can make a promising start to the season. Knighted (K.Stott) runs in the 1 Mile Handicap (3.35). Won four times last year, racking up a hat-trick in the process. Improved throughout the season but was badly hampered by a draw bias on his final start so he's still on the upgrade. Competitive race to return to but we are looking forward to seeing him back in action.

Today we send 5 runners to Pontefract for their first meeting of the year.
Mont Kinabalu (T.Eaves) runs in the 1 Mile Handicap (2.00). Dropped to a very dangerous mark but his form hasn't been near the same as the start of last season. Shown a couple of promising efforts recently but failed to build on them. Race fit and track should suit so hopefully he can start to recapture some better form now. Ayutthaya (K.Stott) and Mount Tahan (S.Gray) both go for the 1m2f Handicap (4....30). Ayutthaya was progressive early last season but then set a couple of big tasks at the end. Has been gelded over the winter and had a small wind op, still lightly raced and could well improve again this year. Mount Tahan enjoyed a great AW season last year but failed to transfer that over to the turf. Had a wind op over the winter and freshened up so hopefully he can bounce back off a lower mark on the turf. Rathbone (T.Eaves) goes in the 6f Novice Stakes (5.00). Showed a lot of promise last year but couldn't gain his first win. Gelded over the winter and looks a stronger proposition now. Have always liked him and he does look like the one to beat on form. Kajaki (T.Greatrex) takes on the 1m4f Apprentice Handicap (5.30). Enjoyed himself over the winter taking on the NH sphere, winning twice. That could well have freshened him up for his return to the flat and he is off a nice mark if he is in the same vein of form switching codes.

Just one runner today with Battle Of Yarmouk (K.Stott) at Southwell for the 1 Mile Maiden (2.30). Made a pleasing debut at the track a couple of weeks ago, running well for a long way before inexperience told. Will have learnt a lot for that run and should improve which gives him leading claims today over slightly further.

It's a quiet Monday with just Magical Spirit (K.Stott) running up at Newcastle in the 6f Handicap (8.15). He improved with every run last year, finishing off with a win over 5f. Been gelded over the winter and always looked to have the scope to improve with time. First run back but he could be an interesting prospect for the season and should relish the extra distance.

It might not be December but it certainly feels like Christmas morning as the flat is back!!! We head to the 2019 Season curtain raiser at Doncaster with two runners.
Major Jumbo (K.Stott) goes in the opening 6f Listed Cammidge Trophy (1.50). He has improved hand over fist over the past couple of seasons, getting better with age. Rounded off last season with a good win in the Coral Sprint. Ultra consistent horses who goes well fresh. Step up in grade but he looked like a pote...ntial pattern horse and deserves to take his chance. Coast Of Dubai (K.Stott) runs in the 5f Brocklesby (4.10). Colt by Elzaam he has thrived in recent weeks and done everything asked of him at home. Come to hand early so no worries about getting him out on the track. Complete unknown in this race but hopefully he can get a nice introduction to racing.

Unfortunately there is only 2 options for a poll so here's a little fun question before the season kicks off. Which horse from Hambleton Lodge are you most looking forward to seeing back in action in 2019??

So we are just 1 day away from the start of the 2019 flat season. The staff have worked incredibly hard over the winter months to get the team ready and are a credit to the yard. There is certainly a buzz this year with some big targets ahead. The horses look healthy and happy ready for the season. Here is a little preview of what may lie in store for 2019.

We head to Lingfield today with one runner. Gold Stone (J.Spencer) runs in the 6f Handicap (2.20). Returned to winning ways last time out following a wind op. Flew home over 5f showing that a step up to 6f should be ideal. That win was at the same track and once again she has a bad draw to contend with. In great form and if she can overcome her draw then she would have a big say.

We have had a decent start to 2019 and today we send Joey Boy (D.Costello) to Newcastle for the 7f Handicap (5.15). Shown immaturity in his races so far but ran with promise last time out where he didn't get into the race but finished well. Always looked likely to improve with time and a nice break between runs has given him time to freshen up. He is on a very fair mark and hopefully he is now clued up to the job. Open looking race and he can certainly run well.

So the 2018 turf season comes to a close today and we have 6 runners to finish the season off with at Doncaster.
Company Asset (K.Stott) goes for the 1m2f Gillies Fillies Stakes (1.30).Made the step up to this level last year with a good 2nd in France. Needed her latest run after having a break and been patient with her until conditions were right. Any further rain will be a plus and she can outrun her odds. Hey Jonesy (K.Stott) runs in the 6f Listed Wentworth Stakes (2.05).... Early season form was good with a fine effort in the Gr1 Commonwealth Cup. Couple of below par efforts but got back on track last time out. Conditions should be fine and he can get into the mix again today. Lualiwa (K.Stott) tackles the 7f Handicap (2.45). Has had no chance last couple of runs from bad draws but before then he had a pair of good efforts. Tougher the going the better form him and although he may be better suited to going round a bend he is in good order. Erik The Red (K.Stott) & Everything For You (J.Spencer) go for the feature 1m4f November Handicap (3.15). Erik was 2nd in this race two years ago and comes into today’s event in good order. Running well in defeat this year and will enjoy any ease in the ground. Always thereabouts in these big handicaps. Everything For You has improved all season and won well over 1m2f in testing conditions. First try at the trip but has looked as though he should enjoy it and if he stays he can be involved in the finish. Roulston Scar (K.Stott) runs in the season finale 6f Nursery (3.50). 3 placed efforts from his first 3 runs and form looks quite good. Looks to have a fair opening mark and he looks open to plenty of improvement. Competitive race but he can go well today and get involved in the finish.

Busy day ahead today with 8 runners across 3 meetings.
We have 5 runners heading to Redcar today. Roulston Scar (K.Stott) & Power Rush (A.Mullen) run in the 6f Novice Stakes (2.15). Roulston Scar has a couple of good efforts to his name, finishing placed on both starts. Didn't enjoy the ground and been waiting for ease. His form is strong and he looks the one to beat. Power Rush needed her debut run, showing plenty of greeness throughout. Will appreciate the step up in trip ...and should take a step forward today. Caridade (K.Stott) goes in the 7f Handicap (3.50). Had a wind op which looked to be holding her back but hasn't quite gone on as expected in last couple of runs. Visor fitted today to try and find a spark back to form. On her best efforts she would be a leading player so hopefully she can get back to that today. Bielsa (K.Stott) makes his debut in the 6f Novice Stakes (4.55). His dam had produced winners and is by a top class sire. This isn't a great race to start off which gives him a good chance on debut, hopefully he can go well despite his inexperience. Savannah Moon (H.Lees) runs in the 1m2f Amateur Riders' Handicap (5.25). Ran very well last time out, going very close. Will enjoy the ground and Harriett is improving in the saddle with every ride so they look the ones to beat.
2 Fillies head to Haydock. Last Empire (G.Lee) makes her debut in the 6f Fillies Novice Stakes (2.30). She is a sister of 3 winners over sprint trips. Has done everything right at home and her sire's progeny tend to handle all types of ground. There is some decent form in the race but hopefully she can make a promising start to her career. Katiejay (F.Norton) goes for the 7f Nursery (5.15). First couple of runs were very promising but then a little below par last time out. Had time since her last run and looks to be starting off on a fair mark. If she can get back to her best form then she can go well and could outrun her odds.
Salazar (K.Stott) heads to Newcastle for the 7f Handicap (7.15). Very disappointing this year and there have been plenty of different things tried with him. Has a visor fitted to try and spark something but he is becoming very frustrating as he is better than his mark.
Enjoy Your day!!!

Consistent all year Major Jumbo deserved to get his head in front and he did just that by taking the Coral Sprint on his final run and earning his first "Big" handicap victory
