At Kids Love Nature we encourage the children to acknowledge and share their feelings. This little girl was practising her facial expressions in a mirror, matching the emotion she was feeling. #emotionalliteracy #kidslovenature #everydayextraordinary

The penguin children have had a lovely trip to the zoo! They saw the giraffes who were inside. They were talking about how tall the giraffes were and what they were eating. Then they walked around to have snack by the rhinos and zebras, during snack they practiced their counting by counting how many animals they could see. They spoke about where these animals would live in the wild and what they eat as well, comparing it to what humans eat. Lastly they went to see the tiger which was up close to the fence! The children were talking about the stripes they could see on his fur. #explorers #everydayextraordinary #zoolife

Each day the children really enjoy baking their own snacks. The children in our Penguin Classroom particularly like making different flavoured breads #baking #flavours #experimenting

The children love to share their knowledge with us about the animals they see on our Nature Interpreter trips. This boy was hiding in the long grass when he said to a Practitioner "I like being a tiger and hiding. No one can see me" "Tigers have to keep down low and hide in the grass so they can hunt and cannot be seen". #nature #imagination #exploring #everydayextraordinary

Our children love exploring the garden and using their imaginations to enhance their play. They particularly love when we have giant puddles that they can splash in!! #everydayextraordinary #Kindergarten #learningthroughplay

On our Nature Interpreter trip we went on a scavenger hunt. Firstly, we found some rocks and stones which we placed in a pile and noticed that there were gaps between the rocks, important for drainage. Katherine explained that the rainwater might soak into the ground and find its way through the gaps in the rocks and eventually find its way into a stream (groundwater flow). The children said to Katherine the water would then flow into a river which would flow into the sea. Later we saw water flowing down the track as we were on a hill, an example of surface water flow. Throughout the session we found a variety of soft, smooth, bumpy and colourful items, including some feathers!

As we work towards our green flag for Eco school, the children are keen to encourage more wildlife to visit our garden. The children were very excited to discover this poplar moth whilst exploring the garden. They were intrigued by this discovery and asked many questions, 'Is it a butterfly?' 'What type is it?' 'Where does it live?' 'What does it eat?' 'Don't moths just come out at night?'. The children have discovered that a poplar moth lives on a willow tree and prefers to be around during the daytime, unlike other nocturnal species of moth.

The children in Penguins have been exploring the forest area for bugs. The children used their knowledge of what bugs like and where they live to find where they might be hiding. When entering the meadow a practitioner demonstrated making a noise by blowing a piece of long grass. The children were very keen to give this a go!

Out in nature kids learn by playing, touching and seeing in ways they wouldn't learn from a book. Children can be mesmerized with the simplicity of nature and the creative possibilities that emerge. #nature #learn #kids #everydayextraordinary

This morning we went on a bumblebee walk for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. We walk a set route around the woods and meadow to see how many bumblebees we can see and what species they are. This time we saw six bees. One was flying out of a tree hollow and the others were visiting flowers such as a birdsfoot trefoil (a beautiful, small, yellow flower) and brambles. During the walk we discussed how bees are pollinators and we used our flower ID guides to identify the different flowers on our route.

Let’s ask to be released from the idea that we have any power or rule over our children's spirit. Do any parents struggle with this? Do you find yourself wanting them to be a certain way? Let us know in the comments below 👇👇👇

This week the children have been given some props to give them a hint of what our new focus animal might be; stilts to make their legs long, some feathers, a fin/flipper to represent webbed feet which the children knew would help with swimming and a sieve. When the children saw the feathers they immediately identified that we were looking for a bird. The children began to discuss what birds they might be able to see when visiting the zoo. As they reached the flamingos, all of the props made sense!
