As it’s now nesting season please note we won’t be able to remove nests or fit cowls until after September 1st. We can remove trapped birds or creatures anytime, we were able to successfully remove all birds last week alive thanks to our customers calling us to extract them and not waiting to let them suffocate. While birds are expert nest builders sometimes it can go wrong resulting in a collapsed nest.

Fancy KFC firelog? As crazy as this sounds you can now purchase the KFC fire logs with those 11 herbs and spices. KFC has one-upped themselves with the 11 Herbs and Spices Firelog. Remind 2018: Thick, smelly tar that sets inside liners are incredibly difficult to remove. The force needed to remove it can often just rip into the liner causing catastrophic damage and when this liner was fitted decades ago we need to be very careful. In this photo we could smell it all around the kitchen when we walked it and the customer could not stand it anymore, it looked more like a river and when the Aga is on it starts to bubble. We were able to remove it with no damage to the liner but it took hours of work. Luckily the CCTV revealed no more tar higher up the liner and it was just at the bottom. The moral of the story... even the Aga needs cleaning at least once per year to avoid potential problems like this.

Called to remove a nest from a liner today to find what looked like a rotten liner. Upon removing the nest we found the liner was actually in perfect condition it was the soot covered hay from a sparrow that give the illusion of a rotten and split liner that were stuck to the sides.

Glazed creosote is awful stuff, dangerous and absolutely stinks! Try not to let your stoves smoulder as this sticks to the chimney walls like glue and is as hard as brick. Extremely difficult to remove, once a small clump forms it will grow rapidly the longer you burn poor materials that smoulder. There is not much left of this terminal its lost its top and completely blocked. Normally a bird will often drop some twigs down a chimney before nesting season hoping it narrows the flue enough to cause the stoves/fires to start and form creosote and that will stick the twigs together and glue them to the wall. Remarkable but annoying for the home owner so make sure cowls are fitted also.

Remember to check under your woodburner if you ever can't find your cat :D Just keeping warm!

Always a great sign when the jack doors nest loses its main structure to reveal daylight and down it comes. This was a very strong nest glued to the liner with creosote. The final stages of a difficult removal, Bird protection cowl fitted, stove built, job done, Very rewarding!

User

You know today is going to be one of those days when your first job is mining for coal/drilling out creosote 🙂

User

This is a great example to show even liners MUST be swept regular.

User

Complete blockage, the creosote was as hard as concrete due to burning wood and rain water leaking into the chimney. The creosote formed in large clumps and took some time to break it apart to gain access to power sweep it. However as always job done.

User

Apologies to everyone we were not able to call back or message back the past few weeks, we have been pretty busy but we will get back to you, thanks again. Your welcome to recall or message anytime just incase we have misplaced your numbers. just remember we cant remove any nests until at least September.

User

Busy today with chimneys blocked with dead birds or animals. Normally we can get them out alive but sometimes when tenants move out and new ones move in it’s unfortunate when they die due to the gap in between. We highly recommend cowls to prevent animals dying inside the chimneys of dehydration or suffocation. All chimneys cleared and blockages removed carefully.

User

Hi unfortunately due to this crazy flu we had to cancel work this week, not fair to spread this to our customers but will contact everyone back and work more dates out soon.

User

Just a small example posted by the fire department to show why it’s important to have a fire stop plate before the ceiling ! Also showing the importance to get chimneys cleaned regular.
