Brooks Farm is situated in Skeltons Lane Park and has been a feature of community life in Leyton for over 20 years. As well as being a lovely city farm, Brooks Farm is a place to study full time and part time land based courses as part of Capel Manor College. 🐖
Along with a range of animals including sheep, donkeys, ponies, goats, rabbits and hens they offer a range of farm based learning activities for the wider community. It is also a well-equipped Outdoor Learning Centre a...nd ideal for school groups and children's parties.
We're so lucky living in an area with free activities such as Brookes Farm, it's the perfect early morning activity for the family when you're up with the birds. An added bonus is the grand adventure playground and picnic tables located just outside the farm in Skelton's Lane Park, which is the perfect hangout on a sunny day. ☀️
Brooks Farm Outdoor Learning Centre is open to visitors Tuesday to Sunday (and Bank Holiday Mondays) from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

This week we welcomed back Danny from First Aid Training who shared his knowledge and experience in practising first aid. As you would expect, we were keen to learn how to deal with the common emergency situations that a baby might experience, like choking and seizures. Although scary to think about, Danny aims to give you the skills to handle emergency situations with confidence.
Danny works for the Fire Service and manages his own training company Emergency First Aid Ltd, ...who offer workshops and training for families as well as corporates. You can book private sessions which can be held in your home - a perfect excuse to invite over some new Mum friends or impart knowledge on your family and friends AKA go-to baby sitters.

Introduction to the Waltham Forest Cloth Nappy Library

Now that Kindred Meets can call Leytonstone home, we have a keen interest in what's on for parents in the area.📍
A firm favourite is the lovely Kukoolala community cafe situated in Leyton Jubilee Park. This cosy venue is always buzzing with atmosphere as new mums share their maternity leave over delicious cake and a warm welcome. 🍰
The best thing about KukooLaLa cafe is it's busy schedule and community connections. At 10.30am every weekday morning it hosts a free story time s...ession for babies and toddlers. In any given week you will find Clair from the Waltham Forest Cloth Nappy Library running a demo on cloth nappies, Rose from TinyTalk Hackney and Walthamstow hosting a free 'bring & play' for 0-2 year olds, pilates, core & pelvic floor workouts as well as creative workshops and organised nature walks. Not to forget American pancake Sundays! 🥞.
So if you're in need of some company and friendly faces, head down to Kukoolala and meet some fellow community dwellers. For more information and up to date events information, check out their FaceBook page. Maybe we'll see you there! 💚

It's always such a pleasure to hand over to Jo Redmond for our Mum and baby yoga and massage feature in Walthamstow. 🧘
The classes are a lovely combination of Baby Massage, Baby Yoga and Postnatal Stretches for mothers or fathers. 🧘‍♂️ Baby Massage and Baby Yoga is a wonderful way to bond with your baby plus give physical and emotional benefits for both of you. Babies are calmer and sleep better and are generally more supple and stronger after these classes. They increase the...ir co-ordination abilities and their nervous system is developed. They also teach a colic routine that is ideal to help babies with digestive problems. 👶
Jo and her daughter Chloe hold Baby Massage & Yoga from the Quaker House, Jewel rd on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Booking can be made via the Healthworks website but hurry - they sell out fast! ⚡

It's always such a pleasure welcoming Sally and Maria from Buddha Baby and Sling Swing into our Kindred Meets community. Seeing the smiles on mums and babies faces as they dance and cuddle through a variety of fun songs, really warms our hearts. Every mum on maternity leave should have the opportunity to join a Sling Swing class, it's uplifting, good exercise and a real bonding experience to share with your baby. 👶
Sally runs Buddha Baby in Wanste...ad where she offers baby massage, baby yoga and baby music classes regularly throughout the week. Sally is also a trained baby-wearing consultant, a service that parents don't know they need until they have it! There are a lot of incorrect ways to wear a sling or carrier and Sally can help you achieve maximum safety and comfort allowing you to continue wearing your child until they are 4+ years old!
Follow Buddha Baby Wanstead for weekly mini-blog features sharing the tips and tricks of baby wearing. We're excited that Sally has shared her tips for baby-wearing through winter with us at Kindred Meets - seems very fitting for this cold weather! ❄️
You can find it on the blog page of our website.

Baby-wearing in winter

Anxious, confused, excited, these are just a few of the emotions you might be feeling as you prepare to re-enter the workplace following maternity leave. 😟
It can be a daunting thought, after all, your days have been filled with your new love, baby groups, coffee mornings, Netflix and mainly one priority. Not only are you wondering how you can be away from baby for that many hours in the day, but you're worrying about their new nursery routine and how you're going to activate... your pre-baby brain in meetings. ☕
The truth is, once you're back at work and into a new routine, you might like it. Hot coffee and tea any time of the day, uninterrupted podcasts or music during the commute and adult conversation and a reminder of your old self. 🎧
As with many things, it can be the idea rather than the action that's more painful and daunting. But we are here to help. Every Kindred Meets mama is entitled to a free one hour return-to-work coaching session when the time is right. Natalie specialises in career and management coaching and has mentored many mother's back into the workplace during her 15+ year career in HR. 👂
Don't forget it's just as important and critical to look after yourself and your own needs as well as your new families. 💥

It's not everyday you get to spend an hour asking questions to and hearing the expertise of a paediatrician but today our mama's had just that.
The lovely Vicky came along to week 4 and shared some guidance on the top baby ailments she sees in A&E. From what to do with a fever and when to administer medication to intolerances, colic and choking. Needless to say we all feel a little more confident in our ability to make the right choice for our babies. Thank you for a great s...ession Vicky!
Vicky is a peadiatric doctor in a busy London hospital's A&E but she's also known as the @oncallmummy and offers local first aid workshops in your home, in and around Walthamstow. @ Waltham Forest Community Hub

Within the Practical Knowledge area of our framework, we are thrilled to be partnering with Emergency First Aid Ltd in Walthamstow and Leytonstone, to give us an introduction into paediatric first aid. Danny Hyde is the Founder and Director of Emergency First Aid Ltd and has over 13 years’ experience in the Emergency Services. 🏥
EFA Ltd strongly believes that everyone should know how to Save a Life. The training style is ‘keep it simple and be prepared for how much pressure y...ou would be under in real life’. Danny’s delivery of practical advice, combined with his realistic perspective as a parent himself, is what makes him such a popular choice of trainer to Walthamstow parents.
Danny runs private 2 hour sessions which you can hold in your home for groups of 8-12. Since meeting Danny through Kindred Meets I was quick to arrange a class and the group was so impressed by the knowledge and topics, they left feeling confident that they could look after their little ones in an emergency as well as how to channel their adrenaline and stay calm when it’s most needed. 👊
To book a first aid session you can contact Danny through his social media or email: info@emergencyfirstaidltd.co.uk

Teething. Those red cheeks, dribble mouths and sad eyes can break your heart 💔
It's one of the tough experiences all parents have to go through as their baby grows. It can take several years for all 20 teeth to emerge.
The level of pain experienced can vary per tooth and per child. Did you know that although we refer to a new tooth as 'cutting' through the gums, actually hormones are being created to kill the gum cells so that they can separate and allow the tooth through - ...that sounds a bit more humane doesn't it? But it can still be a painful or uncomfortable experience for your baby.
There are many ways in which you can comfort your baby during teething. Camilia is a great natural remedy, cold cucumber or frozen camomile tea, silicon toothbrushes to chew on to scratch the gums.😬
We love teething toys and one of our original Kindred Meets mums makes teething jewellery here in Walthamstow. In fact, she kindly gave each one of our new mums a teething bangle in their gift bag that have been very well received. Check out @littlegnashers for more fantastic options, my personal favourites are the 'it's hip to be square' teething necklaces. ⏹️
Remember that like anything, teething is a phase, your baby will sleep through the night regularly one day and soon will have a full set of teeth, in the meantime cuddle them a little bit longer and squeeze them a little bit tighter 👼🤱

I'm so so glad I signed up for Kindred Meets, it's by far been my favourite baby class. The whole ethos is just lovely and aside from the exceptionally curated mix of sessions tailored to both mum and babes, I've met a really amazing and inspiring group of women who've become friends. What I loved especially was the genuine focus on your wellbeing and building your village; until I was in it I didn't realise what an important part of the 4th Trimester this was. Would really recommend this to all new mums, thank you Natalie and Clare x

I nearly didn’t sign up to kindred meets as I thought I could handle maternity leave myself. Nope. I’m so happy I did. Thank you! Great classes which I wouldn’t have found myself and new friends
