Kinesio Taping for lymphatic correction and swelling reduction is a technique used frequently by our therapists, as it is important to address the area of inflammation before taping for other muscular corrections.
To aid with application, here are a couple of tips when applying your lymphatic correction taping:
1. Fan strips are often placed with too much tension. Remember, there should only be around 0-25% tension on the area of inflammation when using a lymphatic correctio...n technique.
2. If you use a wave-like pattern when applying each fan strip, you will cover more surface area over the inflamed tissue.
3. For those who have not been trained in Kinesio Taping, we sometimes see the tape tails going in the wrong direction or the anchor in the wrong place. This is always worth double checking when applying your lymphatic taping to ensure you get the best results.
4. If you have issues with the tape tails lifting - particularly on the hands and feet - you can use a small piece of micropore tape (or similar) on the ends to hold them in place.
5. Kinesio provide a pack of pre-cut fan tape pieces - it can save time if its an application that you frequently use or need to cut multiple strips. You can purchase them on our website (www.kinesiotaping.co.uk) or, for therapists, from our B2B site (http://b2b.kinesiotaping.co.uk)

Recently we came across an article from 2011 related to using Kinesio Tape as part of the therapy goals for infants and children with Brachial Plexus injuries.
The brachial plexus is a complicated set of nerves in the lower neck behind the collarbone, providing movement and feeling to the shoulder, arm, hand, and wrist. A brachial plexus injury can occur when an infant's neck is stretched to the side during a difficult delivery and injuries can affect your child’s shoulder, a...rm, forearm and hand.
Brachial plexus injuries take a long time to recover from, as the nerves grow slowly. The process starts at the shoulder and gradually extends down the arm to the hand. So, it can be several months before you see the first signs of recovery.
Physiotherapy is essential to strengthen recovering muscles and maintain flexibility of joints. Infants with brachial plexus injuries often develop disuse of specific muscles as reinnervation occurs. Kinesio Tex Tape can be used to help to promote optimal alignment and prevent prolonged over-lengthening of weakened muscles. It can also assist with sensory input to mechanoreceptors in the skin in order to facilitate improved awareness.

May 14th to May 21st 2019 is Arthritis Care Awareness Week - a UK based event which raises awareness about arthritis, provides support for people with the condition and highlights the charity work going on in this field.
Arthritis is a common health issue that causes pain and inflammation in the joints, so we thought we'd take the opportunity this week to take an overview of the condition.
There are more than 10 million people in the UK who have arthritis. Osteoarthritis an...d rheumatoid arthritis are the 2 most common forms, but many people are unsure about the difference.
Osteoarthritis is more common in older people, but it can also affect younger people - particularly if there has been an injury to a joint. Many joints can develop osteoarthritis, but the most common are the fingers, knees, hips, low back and neck. It starts by affecting the cartilage lining of the joint - making movement more difficult - causing pain and stiffness. When this happens, tendons and ligaments need to work harder and this can cause the formation of bony spurs. Severe loss of cartilage can ultimately lead to bone rubbing on bone, altering the shape of the joint.
Rheumatoid arthritis is very different and it affects many people as they get older - but it can affect people of any age, including children, as it is a condition where the immune system starts to attack the joints causing pain, stiffness and swelling.
Some arthritis symptoms to look out for include: - joint pain, tenderness and stiffness - inflammation - restricted movement - warm, red skin
Unfortunately, there's currently no cure for arthritis, but there are treatments that can help slow it down and exercise is a good way to keep joints moving. There are also several great charities offering information, help and support.

A great example of #kinesiotaping for the patellar...⁣
#repost @drryansimmonspt - ⁣ This is a #surfermom with lateral patellar dislocation. Surfing is her sanity. With 2 young ones and a partner that is away for work, her injury is causing more than physical suffering. Yes, she has an orthopedic problem. But as a woman, mom, and Women’s Health provider, I understand all of the complexities of physical trauma after babies. With the Kinesio UK office based in the north east of England, we're really looking forward to the 2019 Tour de Yorkshire. The fifth edition of the men’s race starts tomorrow, finishing on the 5th May. It encompasses all four corners of the county and takes ... in 150 villages, towns and cities along the way. TdY 2019 had also been upgraded to HC status - the highest status for a multi-stage race which is not part of the world tour.
For anyone hoping to catch the 2019 TdY along the route, the stages will be:
Doncaster–Selby (stage one; The Heritage Stage) Barnsley–Bedale (stage two; The World Stage) Bridlington–Scarborough (stage three; The Yorkshire Coast) and Halifax–Leeds (stage four; The Yorkshire Classic)
So, with an elite field of cyclists taking centre stage in Yorkshire for the next few days, it provides an excellent platform to enhance Yorkshire's reputation for world class cycling and encourages everyone to take up the sport and be more active.
Cycling & Health
There are many health benefits of regular cycling:
- increased cardiovascular fitness - increased muscle strength - improved joint mobility - decreased stress levels - improved posture - decreased body fat levels
Whether you're cycling competitively, to work, to school, to the shops or for fun, it's an easy way to get active. According to Cycling UK, cycling to work is linked with a 45% lower risk of developing cancer and a 46% lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) - compared to car or public transport.
So, the health benefits certainly outweigh injury risks involved with cycling but, of course, big events often see accidents and injuries too. Over the cycling season our Kinesio therapists treat a lot of these common injuries:
- Back Pain - Knee Pain - Impact Injuries - Wrist and Hand issues - Neck Strain
Many therapists prefer to use Kinesio Taping over more traditional taping and strapping techniques for certain muscle injuries. This is because it supports the muscles and joints, but allows movement - so the wearer can remain active. With so many cycling events taking place over the next few months, keep your eyes open for brightly coloured kinesio tape!
