Legendary Upper Street Pub. We've got real ales, British charcuterie & cheese, live music 'till late.
King'S Head Theatre Pub Description
Welcome to the Kingβs Head Theatre Pub! Located on the trendy and eclectic Upper Street in Islington we are best known for being the first theatre pub since Shakespearean times when the theatre was founded in 1970.
But while we are famous for our theatre in the back, at this Victorian pub our customers also enjoy great drinks in front of a roaring fire, see the images of the worldβs famous stage faces and listen to some of the best live music Islington has to offer.
We serve a βBritish-tapasβ style menu of artisan cheeses and charcuterie, in addition to some cracking bar snacks perfect to take into the theatre.
We are open 7 days a week with a Wednesday pub quiz from 8: 30pm and live music every Thursday to Sunday night starting from 9. 30pm /10pm. With a late license until 2am on Friday & Saturday nights.

Worth coming 300 miles for, from Newcastle! Thank you for accommodating our #peoplesvote post rally social last night. Brilliant you had accessible facilities. North East for Europe :)
This theatre is one of London's hidden gems. The theatre stage some of the best thought provoking emotional plays I've witnessed. And at a cost that far betters those of West End theatres. The staff are super friendly and hospitable. I highly recommend you check out the selection of plays and attend. You won't be sorry.
This is a great venue - so few of our theatre pubs left. The bar is excellent if you're out for a drink I've not tried the food Were back for another show in July but I think the next time we're in Islington I'll pop in for a pint
The venue is small and quirky but I was quite comfortable in my front row seat. Nearly on stage! The production was clever. Trimming off some of the extraneous characters and no the chorus, the core cast of 4 were marvellousi. Sharpless, Suzuki and Pinkerton ( boo what a bad man!) were excellent but Cio Cio San was out of this world. Fragile and yet made of steel! The little 'boy' was great too, and the American wife. The staging was perforce simple and the conception of the production - putting up to date touches - worked very well. Worth seeing. Except it's sold out!
And David Pountney the well known director and opera company controller was in da house.
The theatre is small, has some great fringe shows. The pub is nice, pub belongs to Youngs and Theatre is a separate company with no funding.
The cheese board after a show was to die for! The quality's excellent, and varied, and they don't skimp on the amounts; generous quantities, thick slices, with plenty of olives, pesto, toasted breads; the works. I was expecting something more basic and got something that put the icing on the cake after a brilliant show in the theatre.
Great range of drinks and excellent staff too. I thoroughly recommend!
I am ashamed to admit that this was my first time visit to this fantabulous theatre, to see Adam & Eve & Steve ( First Night Preview 21/03/17 - So far off the scale the needle went into the red zone and EXPLODED ).
Fell in love with the venue right away β this place pulsates with atmosphere and personality respecting an avalanche of previous productions on the walls which is a virtual whoβs who of theatrical legends.
This terrific venue resonates so much more than many of the high end West End Theatreβs it feels much more intimate and you donβt need to take out a second mortgage to see the wide genre of productions β something to suit every taste.
Also the theatre performance space is so much closer to the entire audience β so often at other venues you may fork out Β£40 or more sitting what seems to be a million miles away from the stage.
More the pity that it has taken me 58 years to discover this brilliant theatre, with so many social spaces still under threat in London if you have never had a theatre experience at The Kingβs Head β I urge you to do so.
After all there is NOTHING to beat LIVE REAL theatre.
Great venue - came here to see King Tut, which was hilarious. The theatre has tonnes of character, the size of the venue means that there's not a bad seat and the pub doesn't charge you the earth for a drink. I was really impressed - looking forward to the next visit.
Great pub and the theatre is amazing. They put on fantastic productions. Very worth while a visit. Remember to give the theatre some cash as they have to fund everything themselves. The actors actually get paid too
Great place to be, if you like a music-concert or watch a play in the theatre.
Or just have a drink at the bar, in a "warm brown" atmosphere.
It's not a big place, but the positive thing about that is that you are more "connected" with the band/singers or actors performing, and not sitting for instance, 100 metres away.
Anyway, I had a great time there when I was in London.
First show I ever saw was Diamond Lil back in 2005 I think and have been coming here regularly ever since. Was here last night to see Outlaws to In-Laws totally brilliant value for money great stories (brought a tear to my eye but also gave me a belly full of laughter). This isn't just theatre this is a way of life.
Brilliant pub in London. This was my first legal drink in an London Pub since becoming 18 οΏ½
A fantastic pub with a great ambiance and great food. It was a tad noisy, but that was because of the fact there was a play on in the theatre.
I would highly recommend this pub to anyone in the area.
Great venue, limited sitting in the bar area and no air con sadly so a winter venue as one would suffer in the summer months in the heat, that being the negs to this little treat in Islington, however Loved the vibe loved the staff, we recognise the importance and tipped the bucket on the way out ....
Nice little cozy pub in central London to quench your thirst. If you like, you can check out the show schedules to catch a bit of entertainment at the back of the pub theater or sit by the coals to warm up while you throw back a few. Not a lot of food options so just bring your thirst not your appetite. Not very touristy so you can kick back with the locals.
I like the Kings'Head Theatre Bar. I like the way that it is very accessible to the street passer by however I found the prices a bit steep. i bought a pint of pale ale and it was five pounds nintety!!!! HOW MUCH???
I'm from Yorkshire originally and I found this to be an afront! Get a round for that up north
For a small venue at the back of a pub, the atmosphere is great! But, could do with a little updating with some air-con and more comfortable seating.
STAY AWAY from this place. The play was very good, but the lack of ventilation made it feel like in an oven. Sweat drops falling constantly from my face throughout the performance, sometimes it was even difficult to concentrate and listen to the actors, I nearly fainted. I bet a Health & Safety inspection is badly needed here
Poor bar service, but that shouldn't detract from the great independent theatre space
Behind the pub that is a separate business. Bar staff should groan huff and puff in front of customers when they run out of stock!
