These eight curry houses have been named the best in the North East.
Eight North East restaurants are in the running to be named the best North East curry houses are in the running to be named the best in the country at the English Curry Awards. Namaste & Kings Prosecco Lounge in South Shields and Lal Khazana in Northumberland have both been shortlisted for the prestigious award which has been running for eight years.
Shampan in Whitley Bay, Asmara Indian Cuisine in Blyth and Ashianna in Bedlington also received nominations in the Best Restaurant of the Year category.

Set in a former pub, the restaurant doubles up as a cocktail bar with live music throughout the week. Following their victory in 2017 the owners of the South Shield institute thanked its customers, stating: "We at Namaste and King’s Prosecco Lounge, we would like to dedicate a big THANK YOU to all the members of staff and the overwhelming number of customers that have supported the establishment of the business. "We are also pleased to give a huge thanks to the English Curry Awards 2017 for announcing Namaste and Kings Prosecco Lounge as the North East – Restaurant of the Year 2017" Recognising hard work and dedication The winner of the best restaurant in England will be announced at a lavish black tie dinner in Birmingham. Organised by the Oceanic Consulting, the awards recognise the hard work and dedication of those working in the curry industry. Following the announcement of the shortlist, Irfan Younis, theCEO of Oceanic Consulting said: “We are so excited to announce the finalists for the 8th English Curry Awards 2018. They have not only faced the recent challenges but have indeed grown from them. "The curry industry represents so much more than just food: it celebrates history, community and innovation and we cannot wait to celebrate the achievements of the sector at the awards ceremony. ”

We were there last night for our first time, really enjoyed it! Great singer on, great atmosphere and most of all great food & staff are very friendly! Well worth going to even just for drinks!

We were here on Saturday night for the first time, few drinks in bar then asked to book a table for food, it was very busy but they managed to get us a table 30mins later which was ideal. Food was stunning and service was brilliant. Looking forward to our next visit �

We were a party of 14 celebrating my husbands retirement. The place was packed but the service we received was fab. All meals served quickly and all together. The food was delicious and great portions.

Despite being rushed off their feet the waiting staff were attentive and even set up our cake and brought it over when we were ready for it.

Top class all round thoroughly recommended.

We went here last night and loved it! I called to book a table at Namaste which is attached and as it is so popular had to wait till 9pm. This did not matter as we sat in the prosecco lounge until it was time, there was a duo on singing who were excellent. At 9pm we went for our meal which was delicious and the service impeccable. We then returned to the prosecco lounge to listen to the singers final set. We ended our night singing and dancing and will definitely be returning very soon.

We visited last night for the first time, have to say... it was fantastic, excellent food, great service, super friend staff... highly recommend!

Service, food and comfortable surroundings are first class

Reserved the two booths in the bar for our hen party to meet. Staff were amazing, put our banners and balloons up and had our prosecco chilling in the table. Two limos picked us up later and took us to Durham. Thank you to everyone at the prosecco lounge to got our night off to a great start couldn't have asked for more. Linda. X

Really lovely place we went for drinks first and was lovely and comfortable, then went for curry it was really nice and the staff were funny, one of the girls was waiting for her food and the waiter said chef has just caught the prawns,, it will be fresh haha really made us laugh thank you 👍🏼

Just had the most amazing Christmas day.19 of us have thoroughly enjoyed.the wonderful cuisine and fabulous attentive service from all the lovely staff who made along with our family and friends the most memorable Christmas. Xxxx;Thank you .All.xx

Highly recommend this place! Just had beautiful 4 course meal with work colleagues then was surprised to see a lovely young lady singing as entertainment in the bar area fab nite out and prices are reasonable, decor is fab...love the chandelier in restaurant area! Thanks to olly and his team for a fab service :-)

Had a lovely meal last night the place was so busy but that never stopped the service we received. Food was absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere and the singer that was on in the bar was also great.
