A growing number of construction companies have said they will stop all essential work to help fight the coronavirus, but others continue to operate amid confusion over the government's advice.
Housebuilder Persimmon has joined other housebuilders in promising to down tools, while the High Speed 2 rail project has stopped most work. But FTSE 250 listed Redrow is among those keeping sites open.
... There is concern the virus will spread easily on busy construction sites.
The government has said work can continue so long as people are 2m (6.5ft) apart, but critics say this is impossible to enforce, and that public health should come first.
On Tuesday Taylor Wimpey, which builds over 10,000 homes a year, said it was closing all of its sites "because we believe it is the right thing to do". Barratt, meanwhile, said it would close 400 sites and offices to prioritise "the health and safety of customers and employees".

Supermarket staff have said they were forced to intervene when a shopper tried to leave without paying amid coronavirus panic buying shortages. One man was tackled to the ground after he allegedly pushed a worker over in the car park of The Food Warehouse in Leigh, Greater Manchester.

A gang of thugs smashed a Sainsbury's shop front in south London in a night time raid as supermarkets come under huge pressure amid coronavirus fears.
Six men tried stealing alcohol from the New Kent Road store in Elephant and Castle at around 10.50pm yesterday by 'concealing spirits in their clothes'.
Police said that Sainsbury's staff confronted the men, who became 'hostile and threatening' and fled outside before trashing the store front.
... Video shows thugs throwing a blue sign at the glass entry, which shatters. A larger group then runs away, leaving a trail of carnage behind them.

Premier League footballer Jan Vertonghen has spoken of his horror after machete-wielding thugs stormed his £3million home and terrorised his family.
The Belgian professional, who plays defence for Tottenham Hotspur, was in Germany when four men wearing balaclavas broke into his north London house.
According to The Sun newspaper, the masked gang fled with electrical goods last Tuesday while Vertonghen's wife and two children were inside.

A murder investigation has been launched in Croydon after a teenage boy was stabbed to death on a bus. The victim, believed to be 17 years old, was knifed while the bus was travelling on Whitehorse Lane, in South Norwood , at about 8.30pm on Sunday, March 8.
Emergency services were called and the boy was found suffering from multiple injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 9.07pm.... "Enquiries are under way to inform his next of kin," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said.
Detectives have launched a murder investigation and part of Whitehorse Lane remained closed overnight. It has since reopened. No arrests have been made at this stage.

All of our in house staff have been have been following strict anti contamination guidelines for the last 2 weeks. Hand Sanitizer dispensers have been fitted in the Entrance Lobby and reception area (70% alcohol) 'Wash Your Hands' signs have been placed near to entry/exits.
... The cleaning staff have been tasked with ensuring that all hard surfaces such as tables, bars, desks, door frames etc are sanitised each morning. Anti-virus filters are fitted to our air conditioning units. We need all of our customers, to wash your hands once you enter the building and be vigilant.

A 15-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in Fulham . Met Police were called to Townmead Road at 4.37pm on Friday (March 6) to reports of a group of youths armed with weapons.
The teenager was found with stab injuries. He is in a life-threatening condition and has been taken to a South London hospital by London's Air Ambulance.... A crime scene is in place.
A section 60 Order for Hammersmith and Fulham borough has been put in place and will run until 4am on Saturday, March 7.
