On this rainy and dark Wednesday evening we have some news to brighten up your day! Kookootoo is going to open its doors to you this month! We are working flat out to make it welcoming and homely with a sprinkling of colour and modern interpretations of Persian themes. There will be delicious food, a warm atmosphere and sparkling music. We welcome you to try us out from Friday 24th January: we will be open all day every day that weekend!
Our new address is 518 Filton avenue,... BS7 0QE; telephone 0117 969 2528 or 07821 900688. It is easy to park nearby and there is no restriction on parking at all, even between 4.30-6.30.
But before we say hello to Kookootoo, we will say goodbye to Kookoo cafe on Gloucester road. The last day of serving will be the 19th of January with an extra special kebab day. From this wekend we will have a photo book with our reviews for you to comment on the highlights of Kookoo.
We will miss the Gloucester road romantique but we can assure you that having more space so we don't have to turn away customers on busy nights will be a great relief. Moreover, we get to take our lovely Kookoo team with us!
We look forward to serving chelo kebab and freshly baked bread daily in our new space and to make Kookootoo a friendly space for all our existing friends and new ones, too.
And who knows... may be Persian food is the next big thing as the BBC predicted!
Enjoy the changes and we see you soon,

We live in interesting times.... food is on our minds as we get together in the darkest days of the year - it is part of the contemplative and charitable aspects of all winter festivals - and Nigella Lawson is on te front page of every newspaper. At Kookoo cafe we serve kebab today for the last time this year from 1-6pm. Please book/order on 0117-9516661 or text 07821 900688.
We have kubideh (minced lamb), jujeh (marinated chicken pieces) and plenty of stews, for example duck... fesenjan (duck in walnut and pomegranate sauce). We also have some lovely desserts, like Anarak (pudding with pomegrante seeds and semolina topping).
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year - Kookoo cafe will reopen on Thursday January 2nd and soon after that we will announce the festive Kookootoo opening weekend!
Many thanks for your contribution to the warm atmosphere in Kookoo cafe every night this year - we look forward to welcoming you back in 2014.

To follow on from our thinking about the travels of music, of course the movement of the Jewish population out of Andalucia after the 'Reconquista', influenced many musical traditions in their new homes. This is another reason why we are so pleased to have the band Rmz playing with us every Tuesday, as their Ladino music also originates in the Iberian peninsula. When we are asked why we do not have 'real' Persian music in the live music sessions in Kookoo cafe, we can now answer twofold: we already do nd we are open to offers! Enjoy the sunny Sunday, Kookoo research team

You know how you have a hunch sometimes? We were noticing s lot of 'Spanish' guitar rifs being used in Persian pop music. All of a sudden we asked ourselves: could it be the case that this type of music has origines in ancient Persian music? Similar to the process by which science from the Persians was built on by Arab thinkers and then travelled via Andalucia to other parts of Europe? Apparently, this is not such a far-fetched idea. 'Andalusian classical music was allegedly ...born in the Emirate of Cordoba (Al-Andalus) in the 9th century. The Persian musician, residing in Iraq, Ziryâb (d. 857), who later became court musician of Abd al-Rahman II in Cordoba, is sometimes credited with its invention. Later, the poet, composer, and philosopher Ibn Bajjah (d. 1139) of Saragossa is said to have combined the style of Ziryâb with Western approaches to produce a wholly new style that spread across Iberia and North Africa.' (wikipedia). There is probably a lot more to find out here, but for us it is an affirmation of the hunch we had! We are looking forward to exploring similar connections around food. We found several dishes in a tapas recipe book which are very similar to Persian food. Soon we will add them as specials on our menu in Kookootoo!

After a busy weekend, Kookoo is recovering: laundry, shopping, planning and resting a liitle. When we celebrated a team birthday last night, one card read: your birthday should be a national holiday, so we can have a day off!' Please remember that we are closed on Mondays, so you don't get diappointed when you come over to eat that evening.
A special treat on Sunday was the exhibition of one of the new Kookootoo tables, with a marbled, white and gold mosaic on the top; the f...eedback was overwhelmingly positive on taste and looks. Someone valued the table as a piece of art and estimated the price to be 200 pounds! The marks were a little lower for practicality: we need to develop solutions for differences in levels, sharp edges and waterproof grouting. Fun!
This week, come and taste choobi kebab and the new daily hallouni kebab!
See you soon, Moh&Christien
