Today we have raising money for Children in Need. The children have participated in duck races in the water trays. We have also decorated Pudsey biscuits and created play dough Pudseys! We have also finger painted Pudseyโs blindfold! Thank you to all families and staff who have contributed to such a fantastic cause ๐
This morning we are adding some extra morning snacks to our Breakfast Station for parents. On selected days throughout the next few months, we will be offering different foods from around the world for parents (and older siblings not attending nursery!) to enjoy. This will be in addition to the fresh fruit, cereal bars, tea, hot chocolate and coffee available.
Today we have a French theme - there are croissants, pains au chocolat and pains au raisin.
We hope you enjoy these extra snacks! ๐ฅโ๏ธ๐ซ๐ท
This morning a local Policeman visited the nursery. The children tried on his police hat and jacket and he showed them his handcuffs! The children also spent time in his car and pressing the horn and siren buttons! ๐ฎโโ๏ธ๐๐
Unfortunately, a few weeks ago one of the childrenโs favourite gardens, that they pass on their pushchair walks was vandalised. The garden, which belongs to Laurence Perry has received national acclaim, due to the number and variety of garden gnomes that live there. To help restore the garden, the children decorated a new gnome and delivered it Mr Perry yesterday. Mr Perry was very grateful and thanked all the children ๐
Being children for the day - staff day out at The Crocky Trail! ๐ฆ
The children recently took part in a Sponsored Listen in conjunction with Usborne Books. The children spent the week listening to lots of different stories both at home and nursery. Our local Usborne Distributor, Jane Dickinson, came along to the setting to read some special books during our Listening week. Altogether we raised enough money for the Nursery to receive over ยฃ700 worth of free books for all the children to enjoy. Everyone who took part received books to the total value of their sponsor money! Well done to everyone who participated!

This week we have been getting active for Sport Relief! Each room has been exploring a different sport each day. We have had lots of fun! We did different types of dancing from around the world with Miss Jo the Dance Teacher. On Friday we spent time learning the Sport Relief dance! Eddie, the golfer, visited us too. He showed us how to hit the ball with the golf clubs. We also practiced hitting a target! We have explored different ball sports including football, bowling... and tennis. We really enjoyed our big football game on the field! Even the babies were getting involved, rolling and crawling through their mini obstacle course and knocking different skittles and tubes down with different size and shaped balls. Thank you for all the donations we have received. A big well done to all the children who joined in getting sporty this week! โฝ๏ธ๐พ๐๐ธ๐๐ซ๐

Last week we celebrated World Book Week. Each day we explored one of the children's favourite story books. On Monday we had a visit from some Giant African Land Snails as we read 'The Snail and the Whale'. On Tuesday we tried different dances from around the world and looked at how tall we were compared to a giraffe as we read 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. On Wednesday we had a tea party for the Princess and made lots of potions as we read "The Princess and the Wizard'. On Thursday we hunted for different Nursery Rhyme characters and made lots of yummy pies as we read 'Each Pear, Pear, Plum'. On Friday we wrote letters to the Zoo and had a special visit from Sid the Snake as we read the story of 'Dear Zoo'. ๐ ๐ฆ ๐ธ ๐ฅง ๐ ๐๐
This week we invited the children's Grandparents into the setting. They helped the children make pizzas, plant sunflowers and decorate coasters. The children were also keen to show their grandparents the different areas of the setting. They particularly liked reading stories to them in the comfy corner, making sandcastles with them in the outdoor area and building towers with them in the construction area. In return, the children made their grandparents tea and biscuits from our home corner to thank them for joining in all of our activities. Thank you to all of the grandparents who have made this such a special week for the children.' ๐
This morning, as today is Chinese New Year and it is the year of the dog, a puppy called Barney visited the nursery! The children asked us lots of questions about him, including what he has for breakfast and also where he lives! They also talked to us about their pets and the similarities between them and Barney. ๐๐ถ๐พ

During the Christmas holidays the children have been taking part in a Christmas Reading Challenge. They were challenged to read different books around various themes. The children brought back their book challenges and received a special certificate and a prize from the lucky dip. Super reading everyone! ๐๐
We would like to wish all our children and families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all the staff at La Maternelle. ๐

Today the children have been making some mince pies to give out to people in the local community to wish them a Happy Christmas. Firstly, we went to the shops and pharmacy. We then walked through the local residential areas and greeted the people we met. The children were very excited to ask the local residents and workers if they would like a mince pie. Everyone was very happy to receive their festive treat! ๐
