Lovely atmosphere, fantastic views. Just a shame the drinks were so expensive.

Excellent stay here for a long weekend with our children aged 6 and 11. Very welcoming hotel that is family-friendly. Our room with separate closeable bunk bed area for children was large and comfortable, and although the decor was a little dated, it was light, airy and spotless, and a very pleasant place to be.

Food here is a highlight. Breakfast is excellent! Informal dining in the Brasserie is perfect for family evening meals, and a nice range of lunch options available in the conservatory.

The spa is only open to hotel guests, and the pool is a good size with large shallow area, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Spa treatments also available, and a small gym.

Staff were universally excellent. Everyone was very friendly and the children were made welcome and never felt like they had to be seen and not heard. For a special celebration or as a treat then this is a great hotel in a lovely location.

had a few drinks outside near the lake, staff were brilliant, even bringing us some chips after the kitchen had closed. Highly recommend it.

It is a lovely hotel with very comfortable rooms. Our suite was perfect for a family of four. The location is amazing and waking up to see the sun glistening off the lake's surface really made it worthwhile getting out of the super king sized bed. The pool is well laid out with sections for younger swimmers separate from where adults can swim a few lengths. The quality of the food for our evening meal was mostly good. However, the price of food is very high, and the menu for weekend guests is not all that appealing for those that are not able to eat or like red meat or pork. The vegetarian option - a red onion tart - and which was all that was left really for me to eat was nice, but the onion "emulsion" smeared onto the plate was disgusting and nearly put me off the food altogether. It was far too salty and looked awful. The visual of the emulsion was not appetising. Breakfast was a limited choice with cold options and cooked options. The cold options included fruit, yoghurt and cereal. Cooked options were very limited. My son was disappointed there were no beans. His choice of "sausage sandwich" was a rubbery Cumberland sausage on white bread with no butter. He barely made it through one half of the sandwich. Toast was overdone too. Service from the staff at breakfast was awful. First they forgot to come and take our order for the cooked option. Then they forgot to bring it out. We were with others who had eaten their cooked options and left before our cooked food came out. We were sat at separate tables but we entered the restaurant at the same time and sat down at the same time. The hotel is lovely and the location is brilliant and that is why I give a 4* review. If I were to consider the poor service too this would slip to a 2* or 3* review.

Our favorite hotel in the Lake District. Friendly high quality without being being too formal. A very relaxing hotel.
