Repair Book Closed Until September 2017
I have reluctantly taken the decision to close my repairs book until September. I am doing this for a few reasons:
I have a few repair jobs backed up at the moment that I need to clear before I take in any more and a couple of on site PAT testing jobs to do.
... I am considering moving into building valve amplifiers and want to investigate a few other electronic business ideas and I need to commit some time to this and build a few prototypes.
I have a more advanced valve tester half built that needs to be finished.
I plan to reorganise my stock of parts and build some better storage shelving.
I have to help my father move house and get his existing house in Sheffield ready for sale.
I am sorry if my customers are stuck with faulty gear but I think it is better to do this than promise to fix stuff then let folks down.
I will still be checking my email (the best way to contact me with enquiries in the mean time) if you have any questions or enquiries.
Bye for now! Dan Davenport.

Just mended a Trace Elliot Bonneville C50 combo for James Horrocks of the Lol Goodman Band. I aim to go and see them sometime, maybe at the Maryport Blues festival on 28th July.

Nice touch Real Electronics, they send you a free lolly with your order which makes up for the zero day warranty!

Today I have mostly been fixing a Roland RD-700GX keyboard.

This is one of the more interesting jobs I've had recently. The Q-Chord Omnichord which is actually made by the Suzuki Corporation. The current owner of this one took a gamble on buying it in a broken state. It looked as if a previous owner had not noticed all the screws that hold the covers together and had tried to prise it apart with a screwdriver. The PCB inside had a big crack in it and the DC power input jack was mashed. I did manage to get it all working in the end tho...ugh you had to press quite hard on some of the chord buttons on one row to get them to sound. They use a conductive rubber pad under the button sheet to make contact. I cleaned the pads as best I could and guessed that with use they might improve. That reminds me, I'll should ring the musician who brought it in to see if the buttons have got any more reliable. I didn't check this but it may be possible to get a replacement button sheet from Suzuki. This model has a rhythm section. The plinky plonky tune (in a key to match the chord button currently playing) that is created by touching the touch sensitive strip to the right is quite delightful. 🎶

I have two different models of new cable testers for sale. Made by Pyle and capable of testing a wide range of audio leads. Essential bit of kit for tracking down annoying hums and drop outs. Some new Pyle gear is of suspect quality but these are actually very good. I have been using mine (the silver PCT60) for ages and it has proved reliable and time saving.
The Yellow PCT-10 is £27 and does 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch TRS jack plugs, 3 pin XLR (Canon) male and female, RCA Phono, 2 and 4 way Speakon, 4mm banana. Needs 9V battery.
The silver PCT-60 is £43 and does the above plus 8 way speakon, 5 pin XLR, 4 pin DIN (SVIDEO), 8 pin DIN MIDI, USB, RJ45 ethernet. Also needs 9V battery.

Yes, when I get time I will put my new valve tester in a proper case.
