Only stayed one night but a lovely place and a great location. Room had character so much better that a travelodge. Staff were great when we asked to leave the bags after check out. Didn't have food but what we saw looked nice, great beer garden too

User

Only stayed for one night but it was amazing. Couldn’t be happier with my stay. The room was perfect, bed was comfortable, room was clean, and the staff was awesome and went way above and beyond. If I’m ever back in York, this is where I will be staying.

User

Lovely setting and food was very nice. Beer was lovely with a good selection. I would book a table in advance as it gets busy. We will return next time we're in York.

Lovely little inn has lots of charm and character, our son picked it for us as part of our Christmas gift and it was perfect. We had room 7 which is small but perfectly formed! We had our evening meal there which was very good, I had fish , my husband a steak, ample portions cooked and served quickly. Breakfast too was really nice, staff friendly and helpful. The only problem I can see that people could have is the stairs it’s a high old building so no lift, apart from that all great, will definitely stay again, if you want all mod cons go to a chain, this place has charm, quirks and atmosphere.

Just stayed for one night and so glad we chose to stay here rather than a Travelodge!!

We checked in at 2:30pm at the bar and had been given room 12 "the Attic".

We couldn't believe the size of the room! It was so nice. Very clean, information bookets of the area available. The shower was fun for my 6ft 3 boyfriend as it has a sloping roof but he managed.

Came back at 2am after a night of bars and was someone to let us in, no issues.

Check in and out as easy and the hotel let us store our bags after check out so we didn't have to carry them around york before we went home later in the evening.

Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come again. Lovely staff. Didn't have the food but it looked nice.

Lovely little cosy hotel with lots of character

User

Great little eatery, very friendly and welcoming staff, even good just for a pint on a sunny afternoon after a walk along the city walls.

User

Great food, staff very helpful, nice garden with Minster view. Just watch your step!

User

Great beer, great food and a lovely building. Has one of the nicer beer gardens in York as well. Staff always seem very happy to help and chat. Highly recommended for a pint a sarnie!

User

Booked to stay on 21st Dec for one night our room was right at the top but due to health couldn’t manage the stairs, but a lovely Lady called Holly ran around and arranged a room on the first floor for us, breakfast was hot and very tasty and evening meal was outstanding. All staff were very friendly. Once again thank you Holly for all you did for us it was much appreciated. Would definitely stay here again

User

Been here to eat and drink a few times over the winter monrhs we love it.....and we happen to pop in the other day and discovered the beer garden...fantastic....absolute hidden gem in York....will be back asap

User

Beautiful rooms, fantastic location in the heart of the city centre just minutes walk away from all the sight, amazing food & friendly staff, thank you.

User

Absolutely fabulous food! Fantastic service and a lovely warm place to eat. Definitely recommend. Thank you

User

Disappointed with the superior room we had....I appreciate it's a lovely old building with great history but the room was tired far too hot even with the windows open and the bathroom was tiny with uneven floors and a shower tray that took ages to drain....I have had much better quality rooms in other hotels far a much more reasonable price.

User

Three of us went for a roast lunch, however the Yorkshire puddings were burnt and inedible. We also had cauliflower cheese which was just swimming in water and not cooked or thickened. We had starters of asparagus and duck egg, and The egg was undercooked and it was bland overall. The meat was of good quality though.

User

I wouldn’t really say I didn’t like it but I was rather disappointed. The Inn is very small and overrated. The staff are pleasant enough but slow and much prefer to talk to each other or spend time on the phone rather than serve you. Once you have they’re attention they’re polite enough if oh so very slow. The rooms are small and cramped while clean enough if unbelievable even exaggeratedly over priced. The breakfast is served super hot if totally tasteless, asking for a coffee refill is a lengthy process. The location is very good if the building is somewhat crammed into a tight corner at one of the many gates that surround the city. York is nice but just nice to visit it takes no more that two to three hours to see everything, not that there’s much to see. So save your money and don’t bother to stay the night.
