The decor was simple and pleasant by candlelight, the soundtrack of Nina Simone covers agreeable too. A zingy, generously sized Aperol spritz (£6.50) hit the spot and the food turned out to be great for the price. The starters were all confidently simple — burrata, prosciutto, bresaola — but almost pottily low-priced. Bresaola della Valtellina, rocket, goat’s cheese dressing, for example, w...as £8, whereas bresaola at River Café costs £21.
Roasted candy beetroots, baby spinach, hazelnut vinaigrette (£6) was sweet, fresh and satisfying, with lots of leaves, the differently coloured beets scattered with toasted nuts, all dosed with balsamic vinegar. Likewise, Capocollo, buffalo mozzarella, caramelised peaches, rocket (£6) couldn’t have been better: a tender, deeply flavoured cut of meat, nicely charred fruit, delectable cheese, well dressed. Such collations should be easy to do, if you can source the materials, but getting them right like this is still a sure sign that all’s well in the kitchen.
From the six mains, “new potato and rosemary ravioli, girolle mushrooms” (£10) looked a challenge — pasta stuffed with potato, really? — but it proved terrific, the soft pasta working as a kind of super-gnocchi, a fine foil for a richly flavoured, scented mushroom sauce, containing fresh porcini as well as the girolles, boldly herbed with resinous leaves of the rosemary: memorably good. (The River Café currently offers “Gnocchi di Patate with fresh English Porcini, girolles, marjoram & pecorino” at £25 — I just mention this for curiosity’s sake, I’ll stop with this now, promise.

We had an early booking (630pm ) as we had two young children. The staff were welcoming and warm and were fantastic with the my son (aged 4) The food was simply fantastic. Although there is no separate kids menu as such, they made my son a smaller portion of his choice from the main menu. Loved it all. Fresh ingredients cooked superbly. Simply delicious. We will be back. Why venture into central London when there is a fantastic neighbourhood Italian restaurant on our door step!

This is my second visit for lunch at this restaurant

The food is just delicious. And the service exceptional. I love the Italian lingo welcoming people in.
