'The Red Box Project is a community-based, not-for-profit initiative, which aims to tackle 'period poverty' in young people by gathering boxes of donations of period products and dropping them off at local schools (like donation boxes for food). The Red Box Project Lancaster & Morecambe is fundraising to set up donation points in local areas so we can start helping local young people.'
'Almost 138,000 girls in the UK missed school in the last year (2017) because they couldn‚Äôt... afford sanitary products. There‚Äôs no denying period poverty is having a huge impact on people‚Äôs lives - and it‚Äôs not just the short-term impact of girls missing school, which in turn influences their schoolwork and grades, that‚Äôs the problem. In the long-term, the stigma surrounding periods and not being able to afford sanitary products can negatively impact self-esteem, says Emma. ‚ÄúThere‚Äôs also a risk to health,‚ÄĚ she adds, with issues like toxic shock syndrome and health risks associated with not washing blood-soaked pads or underwear regularly.' - from Huffington Post, June 2018
THEY'RE JUST OVER HALFWAY THERE SO MAKE SURE YOU DONATE AS MUCH/AS LITTLE AS YOU CAN TO HELP TACKLE THIS PROBLEM. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING TO YOUNG GIRLS IN THIS COUNTRY!

Helme Chase Maternity is getting a revamp at WGH! - Exciting to see a new community hub to help offer services like "parent education, infant feeding support and introduce activities such as hypnobirthing sessions and yoga."

Introducing our new subcommittee events officer, Amy. "O&G has always been a speciality I've been in love with, the experience gained whilst on this rotation was inspiring and made me excited about future career options. In this position I feel I could share my eagerness with the medical school and hopefully arrange events as fab as the ones organised as social sec! There are numerous areas within the speciality that are interesting but a particular interest of mine is research into reproductive medicine so hopefully being a member of the committee I can explore and share this topic with everyone. I'm looking forward to being a part of the team and bringing you some amazing LUOGS events!"
