About Langham Pre-School

We strongly believe that every child deserves the very best start in life.

Langham Pre-School Description

Welcome to Langham pre-school, a village pre-school established over 25 years ago and committee-managed by parents of children attending the pre-school.

We are a registered charity, and a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance (PLA), which is a national education charity whose publications on pre-school curriculum and guidelines for good practice have been welcomed by the Government.

Our Aims are:

1. To give children the opportunity to play and make friends with other children and adults;

2. provide high quality care and education for children below statutory school age;

3. to ensure that all children are given equal opportunity to work towards the Early Learning Goals;

4. work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop;

5. to encourage growth of self-confidence and self-esteem;

6. to promote positive behaviour;

7. to value every child as an individual by giving them time to talk and staff time to listen;

8. add to the life and well-being of the local community;

9. offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity and to ensure each child’s transition from the Pre-School to a school reception class is as smooth as possible.

This week the children have had a fun packed week.
We have been looking at the book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We have been making pictures of the life cycle of a caterpillar, reading the story, decorating biscuits that look like a caterpillar and making caterpillars and butterfly’s out of the playdough. All of the children have enjoyed this book so we will be continuing this next week and doing more fun filled activities.
Also this week we went to visit a tractor on the ...field! We all had a go in the tractors seat and got to beep the horn on the tractor. The children really enjoyed this and got to watch a digger dig a big hole for the new beacon that is going up for Remembrance Sunday. After exploring the tractor, we visited the park and had lots of fun climbing the climbing frame, going on the swings and going down the slide. We then walked back to pre-school nicely and all decided to do some painting!
The lions have been starting their ‘learning zone’ packs which is full of lots of different activities that will prepare them for school. If you would like to see your child’s learning zone folder, please come in and take a look in their drawers!
We have been doing adult led games which have included matching colours, shapes and animals! Maria also made a ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ game for us to play. The children have really enjoyed this.
We hope you all have a fantastic weekend and we will see you all next week! 😊

Welcome back!😃
We were all very excited to come back to pre-school this week and get stuck in with welcoming our new children and hearing all about our current children’s holidays! All children have settled back really well.
We have made some self portraits for one of our display boards. The children used mirrors to look at themselves and see the differences in each other.... They then used glue, wool and pens to create themselves. The children then spoke about how old they are and their favourite things.
We are also talking about rules and boundaries. We are going to make a book about these so children can help each other remember our pre-school rules and boundaries.
Please don't forget we have a coffee morning on Monday 10th September (this coming Monday). Please feel free to come along anytime from 8:45am and meet your key worker, have a tea or coffee and discuss the exciting year ahead we have planned. We look forward to seeing you all.

Hi everyone,
Just a note to let you know I am enthusiastically waiting for the start of the new term (Tuesday the 4th September 2018). Monday the 3rd September 2018 will be an inset day for staff to prepare for the term ahead!
We have been working hard over the summer, tidying, cleaning and updating the pre-school - we hope you will all like the changes!! We have created designated areas for play and invested in some new floor mats, so the children can sit and play.
... We have spent a considerable amount of time, revisiting the structure and approach within the setting so that the children benefit as much as possible – we will give you more information about this at the beginning of term.
We have now organised the children into year end groups, and so you will find that you children assigned to a new year end group.. Cubs,Bears and Lions.
Ellesse and Nicola’s key children will remain in their care and all other children will be informed of their key worker at the beginning of term. We are child led and so if your child expresses a particular bond with a member of staff, it may result in us adjusting initial judgements about key staff members.
We really want to create an open and welcome environment for families and so we will be holding a coffee morning within the first two weeks, so you can all come along and meet your key worker, new staff and new families.
We are also pleased to introduce Alison into the setting as a volunteer. Alison lives in Langham and has recently become a grandmother – she will be coming into the setting to read and spend time supporting the children when dates and times have been arranged.
We really hope you like the changes we have made, we look forward to your feedback.
Maria and the team☺️

My son Charlie has been at Langham Preschool since he was 2, he is now 4.5 and loves it there. The children all get along and the teachers are very friendly. The preschool is in a good location with ease of access from A12 and only 5 mins from Colchester.

My daughter has attended Langham pre school since February. She started with just one day a week then moved to 3 days now she goes every day because she absolutely loves it. Staff are amazing. They really promote confidence and independence in the children. They are all so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this pre school to everyone.

Langham pre-school is such a wonderful early years setting, in really beautiful surroundings. My daughter has been attending since 2015 and she just loves it there. The staff are all so lovely, they recognise her strengths and needs and ensure she is engaged in everything she does. Highly recommended.

Fantastic pre-school, our little boy has settled in so well thanks to the lovely staff!

All three of my children have attended this pre-school and the last one has not long left to go to primary school. I love this little village pre-school, the staff are lovely and I know all my children enjoyed their time here.
