A less usual way of visiting us! This certainly wasn't going to make it under the arch!
After lots of love and feeding (the starter dough that is!) here is some of our lovely homemade sourdough! Sourdough is a funny kind of loaf. It all begins with a mix of flour and water left to ferment and bubble which you feed daily (nothing indulgent mind, just some more flour and water!) and remove a little of the original dough. As you can see, a sourdough starter is a daily labour of love so we hope you'll enjoy the end product!

It's the summer solstice! It's going to be a long time (well, a year to be exact!) until we get such a long, long evening to enjoy the summer sun so make the most of it and pop out for a pint...or a gin! After all, hydration is vital in this hot spell!

The kitchen is smelling great! These pears are taking a good long soak in elderflower syrup (we let the chefs out to pick the elderflower and they even came back!) before being 'peared' with vanilla ice cream, honeycomb and a white chocolate & pistachio crumb for tomorrow's menu. We've got some tables left....give us a call?

Pleased to have the somewhat embarrassing election out the way, we're sure Liz is now counting down the hours to a double celebration tomorrow- her official birthday and (perhaps more importantly) World Gin Day! So, do like the queen and pop by to try one of our many fantastic gin and Fever Tree tonic combinations this weekend!

Maintaining an old building like ours is an ongoing labour of love and this week it's the electricity that gets an update! Unfortunately this means we will be shut after lunch service this coming Sunday. Sorry!
It's a very British bank holiday! What to do with that extra day off when the heavens open? We think we have the perfect answer! If the showers have put you off a spin around the May Pole (we know you've been practicing!) pop in for a pint, coffee & cake or a little bit of dinner. Hows'bout something bright, seasonal & scrummy from our a la carte menu to cheer you up on this quintessentially British pastime of the long-lusted for soggy May Day! It is spring- promise!
It's almost time for the goodbyes! Tomorrow is Assistant Manager Aldo's last shift with us before he heads off to Royal Wootton Bassett to run The Angel! I'm sure you'll join us all in sending him our best wishes and congratulations! It does mean we are looking for a new Assistant Manager to join us. Applicants should already be working within this role in a restaurant/hotel serving fresh food (or be a strong, accomplished supervisor with lots of experience).
