Learndirect Southampton Traineeships Description

Getting you ready for work with a Traineeship

Taking your first step into work can be daunting, especially if you don’t have much work experience.

ITA Traineeship is a great way to kick start your career. You’ll gain the experience employers are looking for, as well as the skills and confidence to progress into a paid Apprenticeship, into work or onto further education.

What happens when I start a Traineeship?

It’s great that you’ve taken that first exciting step into work. You’ll visit one of our learning centres and meet our friendly staff. We’ll talk to you about what type of job you’re interested in, your current skills and experience, so we can get an idea of the courses and support you may need.

You’ll be given a personalised learning plan that’ll show you what you’ll be learning over the next few weeks. This could include how to:
• write an effective CV and covering letter
• prepare for a job interview
• fill in job application forms

Depending on your entry qualifications, you could develop your skills further and increase your confidence with our everyday English, maths and IT courses.

When your learning plan is agreed, we’ll find you a suitable work placement so you can get real-life work experience.

What will I do on my Traineeship?

Your Traineeship is made up of time spent learning in our centres and the opportunity to get work experience with a local employer.
• The learning you’ll get from us in our centres will really help you to develop the skills that will prepare you for the workplace.
• Your work placement is a great opportunity for you to get practical work experience. You’ll understand what it’s like to be in a work environment and gain the confidence and skills that you can take into any job.

The great thing is, your work placement doesn’t have to be with the same employer. If you’re unsure about the type of work you’re interested in, you could try different work settings, but you’ll need to do a minimum of six weeks with each employer.

What help and support will I get?

We’ll support you every step of the way. You’ll have help with finding an employer to do your work placement with. If you’re aged between 16 and 24, you’ll have one to one support from a dedicated Engagement Advisor and Young Persons Coach who’ll be on hand to answer any questions you have. Once you’ve completed a minimum of six weeks in your placement, we’ll support you with the next step in your career, whether that’s progressing onto an Apprenticeship, into work or onto further learning. We’ll also obtain a reference from your placement employer.

What happens after I complete my Traineeship?

With the new skills you’ve learnt and the work experience you’ve gained, you’ll now be ready to move onto a paid Apprenticeship, into work or onto further learning.

Because we’re one of the largest providers of Apprenticeships in the UK, we can help find the right one for you. We’ll show you what vacancies are available, help you to update your CV to include the work experience you’ve gained during your Traineeship, and support you in your applications in finding a job or Apprenticeship to suit you.

Do I have to pay anything?

No, your Traineeship is funded by the government so there is no cost to you. You may also be eligible to get some additional financial support to cover costs if you’re finding it difficult to start or complete your learning. Talk to staff at your learndirect centre today.
