Legal Response International - Lri

LRI provides free legal support for developing countries and civil society observer organisations in the international climate change negotiations.

Legal Response International (LRI) is an award-winning organisation based in London that provides free legal advice to least developed and other climate vulnerable countries in connection with the international climate negotiations. We work through a global network of pro bono advisers from law firms, barrister chambers and universities in order to reduce the disparity between different stakeholders and facilitate equitable environmental protection.

The LRI was established in 2009 as a joint initiative of WWF-UK, Oxfam GB and a number of legal practitioners to help enable meaningful participation of all stakeholders in the United Nations climate change negotiations. For this purpose we provide hands-on assistance during negotiation sessions, publish briefing papers on legal issues and build the legal capacity of developing country negotiators. In 2010 the LRI won the prestigious FT European Innovative Lawyer Awards (category: climate change and sustainable energy) and was the British Legal Awards CSR Initiative of the Year.
