Another successful day on Monday when our volunteers went in to Ashton Hill, Failand and worked on clearing lots of laurel. As shown in one of the pictures, even a previously cut leaf can begin to grow again, just showing how hardy this plant is. Taking over the forest floor, it is important to control and get rid of this invasive to allow other trees and plants to grow.🌱
Top job everyone, I think we have plenty more to do again soon!

We would just like to say a very big thank you! to the DEFRA volunteers who joined us last week doing some very important invasive species removal in the SSSI area of Leigh Woods. Despite the soaring temperatures they worked really hard and have made a big difference to the hill. We hope you enjoyed your day out in the Woods 🌳🌲

☀️Like the recent temperatures, morale was high Monday as our volunteers completed the willow fence around the bottom pond in Paradise Bottom Arboretum.
Creating areas for the dogs to still enjoy a dip during this very hot weather, the fence will help protect the path around the pond, and also since the first bit of fencing has been completed, we’ve seen an increase in mini beasts and newts!
Well done to all the volunteers who came out to help during the very high temperatures, but as the pictures show, you’ve done a fantastic job! ☀️

The 1st to the 7th June marks National Volunteer Week! So we’d just like to say a big Thank You to all our volunteers, as we wouldn’t be able to do all the fantastic work we do without you! 🌳 #NationalVolunteerWeek

Tuesday 22nd May was a busy day for Leigh Woods as we were joined by Wessex Ancient Tree Forum. In the morning we gave a brief introduction and History of Leigh Woods, including a walk around site looking at the Ancient Trees such as Small Leaf Lime and Chestnut which are dotted around in the 1950s plantation. Lunchtime they went to visit National Trust to look at their part of Leigh Woods.
The afternoon was spent walking around Paradise Bottom Arboretum to look at the Ancient Sweet Chestnuts, Oaks and Small Leaf Limes.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us, and hope you all had an enjoyable day. 🌳🌲

An exciting new campaign is launching on Monday 4th June encouraging Bristolians to pledge their support for a doubling of the tree canopy cover in the city. Bristol City Council, The Woodland Trust, Bristol Tree Forum and Forest of Avon Trust are working together on a tree action plan which aims to double the tree canopy cover in the city by 2050. But this ambitious target cannot be reached without political support and wide public involvement.
Urban trees and woods are the ...green lungs of our city – they improve our health and wellbeing, give colour, cooling and shade to our urban environment, and provide homes and food for nature. But our urban trees are under threat. And we all need to work together to protect the trees and woods we have, and to plant trees for the future.
Pledge your support for a greener future for Bristol by sharing a photo of your favourite local urban tree or a tree selfie and tagging #TalkingTreesBristol.
Visit www.talkingtreesbristol.co.uk to find out more about the campaign and how you can get involved.
Follow them on Twitter and Instagram and get sharing for chances to win some great prizes! @TalkingTreesUK #TalkingTreesBristol

Volunteers tackled the large area of invasive rhododendron and laurel towards Paradise Bottom again this month. For the first time this year we were rewarded with glorious sunshine and t-shirt weather. Well done and thank you for all of the effort, the difference being made to your forest is fabulous!
Though I do think we need to put marshmallows on the list next time we have a fire!
