About L'Etranger Restaurant

L'etranger is a restaurant on Gloucester Road, South Ken. Named for Albert Camus's 1942 work, the restaurant's interior echos the Nobel Prize-winner's minimalist writing style. Gastronomically the menu is a meeting of eastern and western traditions.

L'Etranger Restaurant Description

L'etranger is an award winning restaurant in Gloucester Road. It was opened on the 18th December 2002 by Owner Ibi Issolah, Executive Chef Jerome Tauvron and General Manager Dorian Pryce.

Jerome has a wealth of experience, having worked in some of the best kitchens and under some of the most respected chefs in the world, including Pierre Gagnaire, Marco Pierre White and Alain Ducasse.

The menu draws on Jerome's love of Japanese cuisine and his Gallic roots. Exotic oriental spices sit amicably alongside traditional French flavours to create a style that is not quite fusion, but something totally unique to L'etranger.

As any Frenchman will tell you, great food needs great wine. To this end, Ibi and our team of sommeliers are constantly searching out great vintages to add to the extensive wine list.

With 1600 bins, we have wines from countries as diverse as Japan and Turkey while maintaining a strong selection with more established wine producing countries like France (naturellement), Italy and the USA.

This care and attention has resulted in L'etranger being showered with awards, including Readers' Favourite Restaurant in the 2009 /2010 Good Food Guide and 2nd best wine list in London in The Wine Spectator's ratings for many years now. At the AA Hospitality Awards 2012 /13 the we also won the acclaimed title of Britain's Best Selection.

For those looking for a less formal dining experience, our sister restaurant /cocktail bar Meursault is just downstairs.

It is also possible to enjoy the unique taste of L'etranger's cuisine in your own home, through the 'L'etranger at Home' service and 'Beau Manger', our patisserie delivery service.

Summer Set Menu 3 courses £29.50 includes a glass of Triennes Rosé 2016
Bienvenue
... It isn’t often that two of the world’s finest winemakers team up to create a wine this affordable, especially when the said winemakers are from two wineries whose creations sell for hundreds, often thousands of pounds, per bottle.
The Provence-based Triennes estate was established by Burgundian legends Jacques Seysses, of Dujac, and Aubert de Villaine, of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti; the expertise in this beautifully refreshing wine is clear to see. With lifting acidity and bright red fruit, this may well become your new favourite rosé.
For the whole of August, we will be offering a glass of this wine with a three-course set menu, with five choices per course, for £29.50.
Just last week, New York Times wine critic, Eric Asimov, wrote a review praising this highly quaffable rosé: "Yes, it is true that the Triennes estate in Provence was founded by two of Burgundy’s most venerated names: Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac. But that would not be reason enough to pay attention to this rosé if it were not also delicious. The wine, made mostly of Cinsault, with handfuls of Syrah, Grenache and Merlot, smells of berries and flowers with savoury, saline edges."
Booking for this three-course meal is essential. To reserve your place please call: 020 7584 1118 or contact us via e-mail: L'Etranger.
For all other reservations please visit our online bookings page.

A review of Letranger restaurat from one of the bloggers: One of my favourite restaurants in #Kensington is @etrangerLondon just off Gloucester Road. It has a superb wine list (years ago the sommelier at the time would take a delight in educating customers he knew and would bring out lots of little samples to test blind to decide if you wanted your choice or his - and he never tried to use that to upsell - just to widen taste and knowledge. I've had that once or twice with o...ther sommeliers since but never as regularly. The black cod miso is to die for but pricey. There is a much more reasonable three course set winter menu with a glass of wine (my red was a very nice Longuedoc) for just £29.50 which is a steal for the quality. Don't miss the crispy caramelized tarte tatin. For more tips check out my curated Kensington, London and New York travel boards on pinterest under discerningfoodandtravel and for in depth posts my blog is www.discerningfoodandtravel.com #letrangerrestaurant #letrangerpianolounge #letrangerlondon #wineselection #winetastingdinner

An excellent meal, with great service! The sommelier was extremely helpful, even though we weren't spending an extortionate amount on wine! Would definitely go back for a special occasion!

User

A lovely quality/price for the lunch menu 25£ (3 courses) the food was wonderful and the wine list is really really big and amazing ! thanks a lot, i'm sure to come back a next time !

User

Rubbish!! Special family meal was ruined by terrible atmosphere, loud rowdy group of diners, average food for exorbitant price - I always find that a restaurant's toilets are a good bench mark, these were filthy dirty, smelly & unkept.

User

will have to boycott till they stop selling foie gras. what a shame.

User

Ugh? Fois Gras! Such a cruel product! Having read your menu no way will I eat here!

User

Totally agree, foie gras should so be of the menu, do you really know what you are eating. Maybe research it guys before you buy. Educate yourself as its never to late to learn.

User

Staff rude when I told them food was cold.
