Never....was so much owed by so many to so few
Today we remember the brave souls that perished during D-Day operations and helped to liberate Europe from the Nazi regime.
Pictured is military locomotive WD820, completed in 1941 at the Vulcan Foundry.
... In June 1944, WD820 and 3 sister locomotives set sail from Southampton to Normandy to be used on the allied supply routes to assist the war effort.
In this picture you can see WD820 being dragged up onto Utah Beach by crawler tractors, the unit was in service until 1946 when she was returned to the UK. WD820 had a busy and varied service life, seeing service in Germany as well as several other military installations until she was retired from service in 1984.
WD820 new resides with the Foxfield Railway in Staffordshire and is a cherished part of the collection.
Our company division Gardner Parts proudly supplied parts for its Gardner 6L3 engine in an attempt to get her ready for the D-Day event.

The first day of the CV Show seemed a success, new and exciting products to be discovered and we definitely recommend a visit to the DAF stand, highlights for us included an almost production ready, fully electric 4x2 CF tractor unit....the future is here and already in real world trials with a lucky Dutch haulier. Elsewhere on the vast stand we found the latest enhancements to the class leading Euro6 LF55, further additions to factory body building options on display, some very welcome refreshments and DAFs stunning "ShowTrekker" rig boasting it's fully airbrushed custom XF gleaming in the sun 😎
