Behind-the-scenes work continues on our redevelopment of ‘The Castle’ at Devonport Park, home of local charity, Routeways – but this time it’s not a sledgehammer but a sewing machine which is being called into action.
Interior designer, Sian Crayford, is putting her considerable costume designing skills to great use by designing and creating two beautiful cloaks - with fabric very kindly donated by Camira Fabrics - which the charity will use in the brand new storytelling area.

A group of 8 LHC volunteers have spent a second weekend transforming the area known as ‘The Castle’ in Devonport Park for local Plymouth charity Routeways
This weekend has seen the creation of the dungeon stocks, an elaborate throne and the painting of the stage/audience seating (kindly fabricated by SWS Ltd).
A huge thanks to our supporters who have helped make this project happen including cmostores.com, Marshalls plc, SHOPFITTING BY SWS LTD, National Trust and Camira Fab...rics Limited.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next update on the build over the summer!!

Last weekend a team of LHC volunteers rolled up their sleeves to begin transforming a run-down area known as ‘The Castle’ into a fabulous storytelling zone, at the home of local charity Routeways. Last year we raised over £4000 to buy new outdoor kit for the charity, but we also committed to upgrading an area of their Devonport Park site. So, after drawing up a design and receiving donations of materials from some generous business contacts (cmostores, Marshalls, SWS Ltd, National Trust and Camira Fabrics), the makeover could finally get underway. Blackdown House is the new home of East Devon District Council in Honiton. Delivered by LHC Design, Aecom and Interserve the new building is a modern, modestly-scaled, efficient, principally open-plan space, which is both functional and flexible. The 2,760 sqm, 3-storey building houses a fully-accessible reception area, Council Chamber and viewing gallery, members’ area and offices. The building grew out of intensive dialogue with staff and senior team and will support a new vision for the Council’s service delivery in the region. www.lhc.net/projects/east-devon-council-o ffices/

Today we're delighted to welcome a new member of the senior team. Maria Vierma joins us as Associate Urban Design Director, based in the Exeter studio but working across the whole of the region. She brings with her a fantastic range of skills which compliment those we already have and add extra capacity at a senior level to our busy urban design team.

Construction began last week on our pioneering V-Simulators research building – and to mark the occasion we’re sharing a short film we made recently with Dr Basker, on LHC’s work for Exeter Science Park.
The new V-Simulators building, designed by LHC and being built by Morgan Sindall, will house the University of Exeter's ground-breaking virtual simulation chamber. This state-of-the-art, world class equipment combines virtual reality technology capable of immersing up to nine... occupants simultaneously in headset-projected VR scenarios, on a 4m x 4m platform which can be physically and virtually reconfigured for simulation of subtle vibrational movement.
LHC has designed a discreet, bespoke, highly-specified office and research building capable of housing this unique technology, which sits comfortably within the overall design vision for the Park and we're excitied to see it develop on-site.

Today we started lunchtime Italian lessons in the studio. Our brilliant teacher is Filippo our Italian ‘architetto’ who not only delivered a great lesson, but tiramisu too! We’re raising money for Young Devon this year and all our weekly lesson fees are going to the charity.
