THE HISTORY OF THE LINCOLNSHIRE COAST LIGHT RAILWAY
Please read in full and click on link below:
What amounts to a comprehensive history of the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway in the Skegness Water Leisure Park in Walls Lane, Skegness, has been posted by Heritage Railway magazine (published by Mortons Media of Horncastle) on their website. It includes several of Dave Enefer's photos, including the most recent one of Jurassic undergoing a steam test in preparation for the fo...rthcoming examination by the insurers' boiler inspector.
The article traces the line's unique history - and explains its significance as the world's first railway to be built by enthusiasts on a greenfield site to act as public transport - through to its successful "phoenix-like" rise in the Water Leisure Park as part of the thriving holiday industry on the Lincolnshire coast.
It explains at some length the role of the Heritage Lottery Fund's grant in enabling Jurassic to steam again and the Peoples' Millions (part of the Lottery grant system) in allowing the formerly near derelict "tub" (a 1917 Department 'D' class wagon) to be rebuilt and become a disabled access carriage, still bearing the scars of getting too close to the German artillery in WW1. The role of the LCLR's Historic Vehicles Trust and its success in gaining Science Museum grants for restoration of vehicles such as the ambulance van and Class D wagons then exhibited in the Museum of Army Transport at Beverley are all clearly explained. We extremely grateful to all who have enabled us to enjoy this excellent publicity in our 10th anniversary year (which benefits all of the holiday industry along the Lincolnshire Coast and the county's heritage attractions) and especially of course, to Heritage Railway magazine who many years ago flagged up the unique historical significance of our railway and have continued to cover our progress in a generous and positive manner.

VOLUNTEERS
The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway is greatly indebted to Kathryn Laverack at Lincolnshire Community Volunteers for arranging excellent coverage on website of Skegness Standard of recent developments at the LCLR, including Jurassic's closed--season repairs and trackwork and pw achievements during the winter and spring -- and to LCLRHVT member Dave Enefer for the superb picture. Thanks especially to the Skegness Standard whose interest in our developments and pro...gress and the coverage they give the LCLR is just tremendous - I know we are all grateful for this; likewise the real practical help in organising this sort of publicity from Harriet Lawton at Visit Lincolnshire Coast BID. The report has been published as part of articles on the success of Volunteers Week in the district -- the LCLR's success due to the commitment of its volunteers is now seen as a substantial achievement in Skegness and district.
This is published as a tribute to many our dedicated and stalwart volunteers who have worked so hard, often in "bracing" conditions to make this remarkable progress possible ahead of our forthcoming 10th Anniversary of Reopening celebrations.

PUBLICITY INFORMATION
BBC Radio Lincolnshire will do an item on the LCLR's decision to open for an extra day on Saturday 25th May at 08.20 in Rod Whiting's Saturday morning show. There may be short clips in the news bulletins at 0600, 0700, 0800.
All these depend on what else is on the "news agenda" at the moment of course, but I'll have my tonsils polished ready for 08.20 to say nice things about the LCLR, the Water Leisure Park and our hard-working volunteers.
... BBC Radio LIncolnshire broadcasts on 94.9 and 104.7 and is also available on the BBC's iPLayer.
All good wishes, CHRIS
