Lovely scenery on beautiful Lindisfarne, go and enjoy it but check the tide times.

Undergoing renovation but still beautiful

Closed to the public. Until 2018. A beautiful well maintained castle. But I don't wish to give it a five star rating until the restoration work is done.

unfortunately conservation work is going on at the moment, so we couldn't go in and the outside is covered by a huge plastic roof (August 2017). But it is still easy to see how unique this building and its location are. That alone is worth seeing - combined with a short walk around Holy Island this is a lovely trip for a morning or afternoon. Check the the tide schedule!

great place to visit, ensure planning so you make it back in time before the tide comes in!

when i went it was a bit annoying as i wanted to go inside but they had scaffolding round it and were renovating the building, but anyway it is a nice walk to the castle and if you bring your dog clean up the waste or it's a £1000 fine! be careful walking on the beach as it is extremely slippy.

Out of action for restoration for the next two years or so. An impressive building from the exterior.

We have had a couple of family holidays in Northumbria and always visit Holy Island and especially Lindisfarne Castle. The trip across the causeway is an experience in itself, but a visit to the castle is at least up there.

The walk along from the village really sets the scene as the castle gradually gets closer; perched high on a rocky crag, it's truly majestic. Old boats have been upturned and made into huts and one of these is where you pay to get in and once you've climbed the steep stone path you enter the castle proper.

I found all the rooms fascinating. I'm into castles and this one is another favourite. You can really get a feel for living here in a dark winter with the sea crashing against the rocks below.

Make sure you climb all the way up to stand on the old gun battery which has fine views along the mainland.

A walk around the island from the castle completes a magical trip.

This is truly a majestic castle. I just happened to see it off in the distance while driving from Edinburgh to Birmingham. I was so glad that I had time and could pull off the road to see it up close. I got a wonderful picture that I had printed on personalized note cards. I still use them for all occasions.
