The priory ruins are by the sea giving them a more romantic setting compared with other priorys in the UK. It's the ancient seat of Christianity in England and the home to the early medieval saints.
An absolute gem of a place. While small (which on crowded days makes it bothersome) with a couple of steps you find yourself into open fields and coastline. The ruins are interesting but my not be worth paying if you decide to go to the castle, that may work out better (I don't know if there was a combined ticket).
You can drive up to it or follow Cuthbert's path, but either case, be mindful of tide times. Take the boat expedition to the outer islands if you want to see seals and puffins.
Go early, make the most of the tide.
Lindisfarne Priory is a stunning English Heritage location. Very fun to explore and is very photographic when not busy.
For history lovers the visitor centre has a information packed museum which can be browsed along with visiting the priory. The visitor centre also houses a English Heritage shop selling a range of products from pocket money items to local items and jewellery.
Unfortunately lindisfarne castle was shut due to on going works by the national trust to make the building water tight, however we had a lovely walk round before the tide came in. Visited the garden designed by Gertrude Jekyll which was pleasant. Also had a walk into the lime kilns, we made our way up to the priory and had a walk around the grounds. Definitely worth a visit
We didn't go inside because we didn't deem the entry fee worth it - which is probably true. Much of the old priory is visible from the outside and that gives a pretty good overall picture of how the structure has once looked.
An impressive piece of history which will hopefully survive a few more decades.
This is a quaint little attraction, worth taking a walk around. Some lovely sights to be seen.
Nice ruins with some explanatory plaques. The ENH interpretation centre and ticket office is useful and has friendly staff and a good gift shop.
Had a nice wander around the ruins of the priory and the small museum. A nice way to send an hour on a sunny winter's day.
Good place for a quick day drive. Church is absolute Serene. Havent felt that in any other "touristy" churches.
