Lindsey Middlemiss - Formerly Of Greenham Parish Council Description

Newly elected Liberal Democrat Councillor on Greenham Parish Council.

I have lived in the Greenham area since 2004 and am well aware of the issues that concern local residents, not least because many are the issues that personally concern me.

I first moved to Berkshire (all the way from Hampshire! ) to go to the University of Reading, where I trained as a meteorologist, but I ended up working mostly in the charitable sector following a period of illness and disability in my 20s. I ran a small national charity, FibroAction, volunteered with West Berkshire Neurological Alliance and worked for a time for the local branch of the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. Since leaving University, I have worked in London, for local companies & charities and been self-employed.

Now, I am mum to 2 children (one at school, one in nursery part-time), I work part-time as a doula - offering antenatal, birth and postnatal support to local families - and I also volunteer with a number of local organisations. These are:

• NCT
• School Board of Governors
• West Berks Action for Refugees

This all keeps me connected with a wide range of local residents, and I get to hear about residents’ local needs and concerns, as well as national issues.

In my spare time, I like getting out in the local area and our own garden with my children, and making progress on our house renovation. I enjoy reading, yoga and walking, and keep trying to like running. I have always felt one of the best things about Greenham is the access to both town and the countryside we have here.

My top priorities as a Greenham Parish Councillor will be to:

1. Work to prevent further development in Greenham without investment into local infrastructure and the community.
2. See the completion of the restoration of the Greenham Common Control Tower as a visitors centre and museum.
3. Improve road safety, especially around the school.

And, of course, campaign to make sure that local people are not unfairly affected by cuts to local services and NHS.

Looking forward to working with the rest of the council to make positive changes for the people of Greenham!
