Thrilled to have completed the Level 1 Anthropometry course this weekend with ISAK. A very hands on course, also covering theoretical aspects of body comp including anatomy, somatotype & relevance in sport. Just need to complete 20 profiles and I’ll be qualified to carry out anthropometric profiling. Another useful tool as a Performance Nutritionist 💪🏻 #performancenutrition #bodycomposition #anthropometry #nutrition

It’s #sugarawarenessweek here in the UK and while we’ve come a long way in becoming aware of hidden sugars, one area many of us still get caught is with alcoholic drinks (timely post ahead of the weekend!), particularly pre-mixed spirits & cocktails. Hardly surprising as, unlike soft drinks, alcoholic mixed drinks aren’t required to show nutritional info ... go figure!
A recent report by #actiononsugar at Queen Mary University in London showed some pre-mixed alcoholic drink...s contain over 8 teaspoons of sugar per serve ... almost as much as a can of Coke. Most people don’t think of these drinks in the same way they would downing several cans of soft drink on a night out.
The report calls for alcoholic drinks to meet the same requirements as the Soft Drinks industry for nutrition labelling and show their sugar content so we can make better informed choices.

LATE INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY POST ☕️❤️ In honour of the above thought I’d share my blog post on coffee as I’m often asked if coffee should be avoided ... my answer is no (well not usually!). Full post here bit.ly/2MdwlRU or read on for a brief summary ☕️👌
👉Whether it’s good or bad may depend on your genes
... Coffee ... the good bits: · Stimulates mental & physical performance · May improve blood sugar levels · May have a positive effect on weight by temporarily ⬆️ metabolism & ⬇️ appetite · Contains nutrients & antioxidants = positive health effects
The not so good bits: · It’s addictive & your body adapts to it · not recommended for those suffering anxiety & high stress levels . Increases cortisol, our stress hormone · If you are a naturally ‘wired’ personality type, lots of high-intensity exercise, always stressed caffeine may be feeding into this scenario · Can raise heart rate & blood pressure · Can deplete certain nutrients in our body – notably B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc · Can interfere with sleep. While effects usually felt within 15-45 mins, it can still be present in the body after 4-6 hours
👉The verdict: A daily dose of caffeine isn’t essential, but for those of us who appreciate a good coffee in the morning, the day always starts better with a good ☕️. Just be sure to avoid the sweeteners!

ONCE UPON A TIME. I’m participating in a food photography challenge for the next few weeks run by the inspirational @thelittleplantation, trying to hone my food photography skills ... I’ve a long way to go 😜. Having a theme to work towards puts a different emphasis on a post. I’ve chosen grilled peaches with a nut crumble because my mum used to make me stewed peaches in sago when I was a kid and so cooked peaches remind me of once upon a time. Grilling peaches is super ea...sy and adding a nut crumble adds a nice dose of protein & healthy fats (even though this post is about the photo I’m compelled to add a nutritional snippet!) TO COOK THE PEACHES 🍑 Heat a teaspoon of coconut oil in a fry pan. Slice each peach in half and place face down in the fry pan, cooking over a med heat until the peaches start to caramelise. Remove from heat. TO MAKE THE NUT CRUMBLE: Pre-heat oven to 220C In a food processor pulse ~4 cups of nuts & seeds (I used 1/2 cup each of almonds, walnuts, macadamia & pumpkin seeds). You don’t want a fine powder, just chopped. Transfer to a mixing bowl. Next heat 1 1/2 tablespoons coconut oil until melted. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup and mix through the nut mixture, until well combined. Spread the mixture onto a lined baking sheet and bake for 10-15 mins, being careful not to burn. Allow to cool & break up any large pieces. Store in an airtight container for a few days. Served her with Kefir yoghurt. This is a deliciously healthy dessert, but be warned that nut crumble is so yummy but is high in calories, so go easy with portion size. #eatcaptureshare #healthyfood #healthydesserts #healthyfats #foodphotography #summerfruit #peaches #simplefood
