Extending children’s learning requires a skilled practitioner to know and understand when to become involved with the children’s play and when to sit back and watch. It can be very easy to want to jump right in and place learning into the play, with excited questions like “how many cars to you have?” or “what colour is that apple?” under the understanding that good practice is finding a learning at every opportunity.
However, that is our agenda, not the purpose of the play f...or a child. A skilled practitioner will observe the child and then decide on a good time to ask to join. If permission is granted, the practitioner will play along side the children allowing them to lead and dictate the adult’s role!
Like when the puzzle piece is the wrong way around and you turn it so it fits straight in…. how do you know the child would not have reached this goal in their own time, using their own skills? Giving a narrative that helps the thinking along is much more enlightening for the children, such as “Lets look at the picture, can we match the colours”

Self-care and independence allows even our youngest babies to gain confidence in their own abilities. At Little Angels we ensure that meal times are as full of learning opportunities as the rest of the day. Much time and attention is given to the babies to support them reach the next developmental milestone. Using positive reinforcement, encouragement and lots of smiles allows the baby to explore what they can do. Teaching children to have a “can do” and “give it another go “attitude!

School holidays can be a stressful time for working mums who are already juggling many balls in the air. That overriding feeling of guilt because “other mums” are posting all over social media about the fun packed half term fun they are going to have with their children! Well, worry no more! Our Brightsparks holiday club is the solution! We offer exciting days for your children to spend doing the things holidays are made for – visits to the park, the cinema, dog walks, ice-c...ream, swimming, hot-chocolates, cooking, playing with friends…. that’s us! Our fantastic staff want the children to have the best time, so we involve them in our planning! After all this is a Holdiay from school, a break from the routine! After all, how many grown ups would spend their annual leave on work premises?? Not many!! We play hard so we eat well! Children burn so many calories from playing so we ensure that we are fuelling them with the best nutrition each day! Home cooked meals and snacks are available throughout the day at no extra cost! When we call ourselves Little Angels, we really mean it!

At Little Angels we get to know each child in our care, we observe them so we can understand what make them tick, what they enjoy and how best to support their learning. We work in partnership with our parents to create a learning rich environment where children are confident to challenge and explore!

After a busy day at school the Brightsparks walk back to nursery from school, giving them time to “leave it behind”. They are welcomed with a cooked two course meal, drinks and space to unwind, do homework, relax or play! Like a play date with friends! Perfect

What children learn does not follow as an automatic result from what is taught, rather, it is in large part due to the children’s own doing, as a consequence of their activities and our resources. —Loris Malaguzzi, The Hundred Languages of Children. Today in the baby room (cherubs) we provided the environment and resources where the babies could explore the different ways light can be explored, each child explored differently. One child used the torch and watched how he was able to create the light on the ceiling, another child was fascinated that she could see the lights on her clothing and the other child was interested in the light source and was intrigued to where it was coming from. This was a loved activity and showed great involvement and investigation 🥰 🔦 🌟

Being creative allows us to experience a deep level of involvement within our play – it encourages us to think differently, it allows us to immerse ourselves in an activity that pleases all the senses!

Through observations In our cherubs room (baby room) we have identified that one of the children are showing they have a schema. Schemas (Athey, 1990) are repeated patterns of actions when exploring through play. This particular schema is called Trajectory schema (Athey, 1990)- a trajectory schema is all about the movement of objects or own body’s movements. The observations included climbing on and off the table, repeatedly opening and shutting the cupboard and moving the chair forward and backwards. Below are photos are how we expanded on this by providing an activity where the forward and backwards movement could be made into a sensory and mark making experience whilst being highly involved due to identifying this schema 🥰🥰🥰

We have been exploring our small world resources in an exciting sensory way! Using food that was given to us by our local supermarket! Using small world figures allows us to talk about the world that we know, and helps us to understand a sense of self!

Exploring with our bodies, creating marks that we can not only see, but feel!
A sensory experience that ignited a curiosity, releases endorphins and makes us feel happy.
Children need space and time to get involved in their play. Play that does not have an adult agenda. Time when they are free to explore their own thinking.
... To some, this is a mess and a waste of time. To a child this is a journey of wonder, exploration and delight!

We're glad our son has settled in so quickly at little angels, and he doesn't seem to have the issues we thought he had with the childminder. We think you're all doing a great job with him!!!

We have been using Little Angels in Uppingham for just over 3 years now and have found them to be excellent in all areas.



Our eldest has had some real issues settling at nursery after the birth of our second child but they have tried so many ideas and suggestions to help him settle better and we have achieved it and have a happy little man at nursery drop off now. They also spotted his reduced hearing and helped in the referral process to a health professional which had led to treatment and his hearing being restored, I can not thank them enough for this!



Our youngest has settled with them from the start and loves everyone and everything about Little Angels.



The staff are very friendly and the food excellent.



Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

My son has been going here since he was 10 months old when I returned to work. He thoroughly enjoys it. The staff are all very caring, approachable & professional. There are lots of different activities available to the kids and I am happy in the knowledge that my son is stimulated & is loved here. Thanks to the little angels family xx

My son has been attending the after school sessions and bright sparks holiday club for a year now. He loves it! The team are so flexible and always happily cater to my sheer disorganisation! The range of holiday activities are fantastic and they're always off and about somewhere exciting! Quality care, great team, nourishing meals - I wouldn't send my son anywhere else! �

My son Dylan started nursery at Little angels when he was 15 months old and has loved every second, the love and care he is given there is second to none, the girls are devoted to each and every child that walks through the doors, which shows as soon as you enter the building.

I remember my first day working at little angels I was so nervous and not only me but my 5 year old son too, we needn't of been as I was greeted and welcomed straight away as Owen was too, within a week my son was asking me too work longer hours as he loved going that much he felt like he was missing out.

My daughter loves going to nursery everyday she asks I go nursery now mummy, she has come on so much since starting. The girls are amazing and I can't thank them enough for what they do! It makes my day easier knowing she is looked after and knowing she loves being there, whilst I'm at university or work. They aren't just supportive of noamis learning and progress but mine also, You girls have been so great and supportive of what I do and I wouldn't find that anywhere else so thank you for doing an amazing job x

My 7 year old comes here to breakfast & after school club. He is a fussy eater but always enjoys the food & has even started to eat a wider variety of food since trying different options - which he would never do at home!

My 4 year old comes 5 days a week 8am - 6pm ish & loves it. He has 2 wonderful home cooked meals every day in with the price & looks forward to school every day.

The staff are so good with the children - totally crazy (Lucy!! Haha) but they all love their jobs & love the children. Totally recommend. Xxx

Ivy has been attending little angels for 2 years now and absolutely loves it. Lucy has a cracking team who are wonderful with the kiddies. Always always great to chat to! Some days Ivy doesn't actually want to come home which in itself speaks volumes. Thanks to you all xxx

I highly recommend little angels. My daughter has recently started in the baby room and the girls have helped make such a worrying time so much more bearable with not only their professionalism but also compassion and understanding.

I highly recommend little angels as they really do make a day full of fun for my boys. I felt guilty going back to work full time but that soon went away when I realised how much fun they had & how well all the staff cared for them. Plus Shelley cooks great food for them. ��

I can not praise little angels enough! Lucy and her team are amazing. They are all caring and like one big family! The staff are always striving to achieve more for their careers and each have a fantastic way with the children. My two boys have been attending for about a year and a half and wouldn't want to send them anywhere else .. my eldest is due to start school in September but will still be attending little angels in the holidays. Fantastic facilities, fantastic location .. I couldn't ask for more from my boys childcare providers xxx

They walk to and from school, they have home-cooked food, all 3 of them - of differing ages - have their interests catered for and all enjoy going there. If one of them has an after-school club they are able to go and be collected afterwards by Little Angels. The care provided is excellent - I really feel that Little Angels have taken the time to get to know each child. I can't praise them highly enough.
