A survey by Be Real (2018) of UK 11–16-year-olds found that over half of young people had experienced appearance-based bullying, with 54% saying the bullying had started by age 10. With statistics like that, is there any wonder so many young people are worried about their body image. That’s why it is so important for us to have those conversations with our young dancers! #BeBodyKind and focus on the amazing talents, personalities and friendships our dancers have rather than the way we look or what we wear #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Happy Monday everyone and welcome to #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek . We start the week with some hard hitting facts from the Mental Health Foundation. According to their report, young people aged 16-25 identified body image as the third biggest challenge currently causing harm to young people, with lack of employment opportunities and failure to succeed within the education system being the first two.
That is why it is so important that we, as a dance school, are there to assist... in the promotion of those messages of positivity and provide help and guidance to our dancers and parents/guardians alike.
This week we'll have lots of information available for both dancers and parents/guardians to have a read of at the studio as well as sharing information online. Our word wall is also to be used by dancers, teachers, siblings, parent/guardians and anyone else that is in the studio this week. Please get involved and #BeBodyKind

The studio is all ready for #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek ! We’ve got our word wall all set up for you to come and add to it. We want to celebrate positivity and burn negativity 😊🔥 Thanks to Joshua for the first official addition of STRONG 💪

May 13th-19th is Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme for this year's MHA Week is "Body Image". Throughout the week we will be sharing some important information about Body Image as well as other topics that may affect the young people at our dance school. 💜 At the studio, we are going to create a “Wall of Words” that we use to describe ourselves. At the end of the week we will create a body positive piece of art with all the positive words and SET FIRE to the negative words (no joke, there will be an actual fire). 🔥 We would like to encourage everybody that comes to the studio to get involved; teachers, parents, grandparents, siblings and dancer’s young and old! Let’s create space where we are proud of the way we look and the way we see others 💪 #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Not only have we got some talented dancers, but artists as well! Last week we tasked our dancers to create some artwork that would celebrate #NationalStationeryWeek and they certainly delivered!! #MoreThanADanceSchool #LittleGemsFamily

*** Little Gems Good News *** Gemma is now a certified Mini Movers Licencee!! Watch this space for more information about our new class incorporating dance, drama and music for children from birth to 5 years and exercise for their adult "helper"!x

***Free Taster Session*** Gemma is completing her licence to deliver Mini Movers classes and needs some help!!! Mini Movers is a franchised class of dance, music and mime for under 5s and their parents, designed to introduce children of nursery age and their families to dance for fun and for exercise. On Sunday I will hopefully complete my licence and the trainer would like to deliver a taster class @ The Studio for me to assist in. The class is free and open to any of our dancers under the age of 5. Please let Gemma know asap if you would like to attend as numbers are limited to 10! Xx

In total we have been in the studio just less than 20 hours over the last two Sundays and have done 341 exams....we have had tears, tantrums, hugs, plenty of coffee, cake, laughs, smiles, jokes, a few cheeky little monkeys, soooooooo many honours and distinctions and plenty of lovely comments! But as ever it is the lovely atmosphere, the teamwork and watching the kids support each other than I am most proud of! Good job all round everyone including all of my amazing teachers and student teachers, Deb and Sarah! Now its time to get started on Showtime 2019 "We are Family"!x
