A little bit of self-care goes a long way! I managed to get out by myself this morning for a lovely holistic treatment appointment...a winning combination of deep massage to work out the knots caused by 10 weeks of carrying, rocking and breastfeeding, relaxing reflexology to help with the postnatal migraines I've been suffering with, and a wonderfully nurturing 'Closing the Bones' therapy šāāļø
Just having an hour and a half to focus on my own health & wellbeing was blissful...but Victoria Gazzard - Women's Wellbeing and Support has very skilled, healing hands that I'd highly recommend! She offers a variety of antenatal and postnatal complimentary therapies in both North Somerset and South Bristol and anyone booking onto my upcoming hypnobirthing courses will receive a Ā£10 discount off her treatments! Thank you Victoria! ā¤ļø
Have you thought about having a ādue monthā instead of a due date? It sounds a bit wacky but it can really help those last few weeks of pregnancy feel a little more relaxed and stress-free.
In both of my pregnancies no-one except my husband knew my due date for one simple reason - itās an estimation not an expiration! Everyone seems to forget this so being a bit vague with your loved ones (and enquiring strangers) can limit the pressure that can suddenly loom over you as you ...approach the end of pregnancy (āno signs of baby yet then?ā āyouāre STILL pregnant?!ā āwhen will they want to induce you?ā)ā¦
Hereās just a handful of reasons why having a due month is not so wacky:
š
The fact that only 4% of babies are born on their ādue dateā makes it highly unlikely that yours will be
šDating pregnancy at 40 weeks is not standard worldwide. Did you know that estimated due dates in France are given as 41 weeks of pregnancy? Could that be because 1 in four women are still pregnant at 41 weeks ā this is normal! These babies are not ālateā!!
š
Babies are healthily and safely born any time between 37-42 weeks as outlined by the World Health Organisation who actually donāt specify a particular week. Even then 10% of pregnancies continue beyond 42 weeks, where women have chosen not to be induced. I myself have had one baby born at 38 weeks and one baby at 41+1, both spontaneously, when the time was right for them
So, donāt get fixated on that one little date! Come and learn more about due dates on a Little Passengers Hypnobirthing courseā¦

A valuable evening event coming up on Monday for any new or expectant mums out there...

April has been C-Section Awareness Month!
The best birth can take on so many forms. For anyone who feels that a cesarean section is any less to be proud of than a vaginal birth, that itās just a statistic or a failed natural birth, this video canāt help but make you think again. A c-section is not only very much a babyās birth, but a womanās birth into motherhood too š
Having supported hundreds of women going through Cesareans in theatre, both planned and unplanned, I can t...ell you these births can be just as intense, powerful and unique as any other birth experience. It is no āsoft optionā and no less specialā¦these women are hard as nails! I love how this video manages to portray all of that raw emotionš
Part of pregnancy and birth is the unexpected change of direction it can sometimes take and a hypnobirthing course should encompass so much more than simply aiming for a natural birth. This is why Iām passionate about imparting tools, not ideals. I teach women to trust their instincts, ask questions, make informed decisions. To trust their birth partner, work together with caregivers, to create the best birth environment possible and to ensure they receive the level of individualised care they deserve š
Every woman CAN have a positive birth with the right preparation and a confident, empowered mindsetā¦no matter how their baby enters the world š

šThis is an absolutely fascinating read and such a valuable one for all new parentsā¦With so much unsolicited (and completely unfounded) advice about creating ābad habitsā and a ārod for your own backā, we now know better that responsive parenting, cuddling, tactile touch, meeting our babies needs when they cry is what lays the foundation for secure attachment and your babyās good mental healthā¦
Itās official, you ca...nnot hold your baby too much!š

šFor all those new mumās and mumās-to-beā¦Happy Mother's Day! I hope youāre being thoroughly spoilt today with a bit of āme-timeā and being celebrated for the wonderful job youāre doing nurturing your tiny humansā¦š
I found one of the hardest things about the transition to motherhood to be the feeling of never achieving anything (I still wrestled with this over 2 years in & have just reset the clock with baby No. 2!) ā¦so this video is a lovely little reminder ā perception is everything, what we do is our best and it is enough š
ššThis time last week I was 8 days past my ādue dateā, had had a wonderful reflexology session in the morning, was bouncing on my ball watching some stand-up comedy on Netflix and wondering if my baby would EVER make an appearanceā¦.maybe it was the powerful full moon that night š, on the eve of World Hypnobirthing Day, but a few hours later he was here!
We welcomed a second beautiful boy, Gus, into our lives on 20th March, in the birth pool at home. Not so little this time at 8lb 11oz and a lot speedier, but every bit as relaxed & magical as his brotherās arrival two years beforeā¦We are loving getting to know the new addition, remembering just how delicious newborn cuddles are, and adjusting to life as four šš

Itās #SaferSleepWeek ššā great to see the Lullaby Trust acknowledging co-sleeping as a choice that many new parents make, as well as something that can easily occur unplanned. Informed choices require information, and this new animated guidance provides clear, evidence-based support to help parents keep their babies as safe as possible.
And thereās tons of other fantastic safe sleeping resources if you delve into their Facebook pageā¦

Loved seeing all the coverage of International Women's Day yesterday...but can't help but think that every day should be Womenās Day! No matter how many times I witness and facilitate the wonder of birth, in whatever form it takes, it never fails to remind me how magical, resilient and remarkable women and their bodies are. If that feeling of downright awe ever disappears, then thatās when I need to stop being a midwife!
And women are so humbleā¦they so frequently underestima...te themselves and what they can achieve, They often accept and fear all those things they are told might go wrong ā ālabour will be painful, Iāll be out of control, complications will arise, birth is something to endureā
šøšSo, letās start helping each other to realise what we can actually do! Women, letās support other women to feel good about birth, to get excited and look forward to it. We need to stop sharing āhorror storiesā and tell other women about our positive experiences instead. We need to stop reinforcing the outdated, fear-provoking image of birth that women see in the movies and on TV, and restore their faith in this spectacular, life-changing event that womenās bodies are perfectly designed to doā¦
Positivity, empowerment and confidence in birth - what an extraordinary gift we can so easily give to other womenā¦every day. ššø

Well, Spring seems to have officially sprung in our gardenšøšŗ, bringing with it plenty of inspiration for visualising what Iād like my body to be doing soon!
One of the important messages that couples learn in Hypnobirthing is that where the mind leads, the body follows...and visualisations can be a really powerful tool to help you during labour and birth.
Just picturing the imagery of big beautiful blooms whilst practising relaxation and breathing techniques in pregnancy can... lead the mind to be naturally thinking 'soft' and 'open' when the time comes during birthā¦ the chances are that the body will follow suit, which is exactly whatās needed for baby's gentle passage into the world.
If flowers arenāt your thing, it could just as easily be gentle, smooth ripples opening on a still lake...
