This is my ultimate vision for Liverpool's future Tube and Rail Network to be completed before the end of the century. A 60 year masterplan, laying the foundations that will set this City up for centuries to come. The aim is to connect everyone in the City Region, allowing them to move from A to B quickly and efficiently.

We need real vision, no half measures and I believe this plan represents just that. The trouble with this country nowadays, nothing we build is big enough to cope with the demands of the future, nor grand enough for us to be proud of! Where’s our British pride? We need to have foresight and think what things are going to be like one or two hundred years’ time. Think how many cars are going to be on the road by then? The population of the UK will have hit 100 million and before you know it everything becomes inadequate and operating 200% above the capacity it was designed for. We need to build for our future now and I believe massive transport infrastructure projects like Liverpool Underground are exactly what we need to deliver the kind of REAL world class transport systems our great cities deserve.

Getting the ordinary person from A to B quickly and efficiently is the key. No hassle, that's what the people crave. They want to get to the City Centre from their homes in 20 minutes, not sit on a bus for an hour to get 4 miles! London now boasts one of the best transport networks in the world. It's now time to spend serious money on radically improving transport in our country's provincial cities; Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Glasgow; connecting everyone from their homes to all corners of the City Regions, quickly and efficiently.

Not only will the entire City Region grow as a result of building this network, Liverpool City Region will become a highly attractive place for people all over the world to come and live. Local businesses will benefit greatly as they become so much closer to people’s doorsteps. Global businesses will want to base their headquarters here simply because of it’s fantastic connectivity. We need to have a system like this in place to cater for Peel’s £30 Billion Liverpool and Wirral Waters development and ensure they have fast direct connections with Lime Street and JLA. Liverpool Underground will ensure Liverpool competes on the global stage and cements its status as a true World City.

The time of the train is returning; with petrol prices and the general cost of living going through the roof, people can't afford to run their cars anymore. We need the government to provide world class rail services at local level. Londoners already enjoy excellent transport around the capital; it's time to provide the rest of the UK's great cities with the same kind of efficient travel the people of London enjoy.

We need to build for our future, and now is the perfect time to do it!
