LIYSF is a two week residential event held at Imperial College London, with lectures and demonstrations from leading scientists, visits to industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organisations.

Liysf Description

The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is an annual two week event that attracts outstanding science students globally.

• LIYSF 2018: 25th July - 8th August 2018

• Leading scientists, dignitaries and industry pioneers give lectures throughout.

• The two week residential forum attracts over 350 of the world’s leading young scientists aged 16-21 years old from more than 67 participating countries.

• Students attend as international prize winners, including top winners from European Union Contest for Young Scientists, INTEL ISEF, FAST Italy, National Youth Science Forum Australia, INTEL India, Beijing NGO, British Council Famelab Egypt, Malta Student Science Forum and Ministry of Education Singapore.

• Former speakers include Professor Lord Winston, Professor Sir Roy Anderson, Lord Browne of Madingley, Professor John Ellis (CERN) and Sir Colin Terry to name a few.

• Key elements include opportunities to visit industrial sites, research centres, scientific institutions and organisations, including departments at, Oxford and Cambridge as well as Airbus, Rolls Royce, National Oceanography Centre and Culham Science Center

• LIYSF president and past presidents include Professor Richard O’Kennedy, Lord Briggs, Lord Ritchie Calder, Dame Kathleen Londsdale and founding Patron the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip HRH.

• There is an active social calendar with events designed to enable those from around the world to learn about different cultures, for example, Debates, International Cabaret – Cultural Showcase Performance Evening and Traditions of Home – Sharing World Customs and Fashion.

• The scope of LIYSF extends further than broadening scientific understanding to engage students in education on other cultures and develop lasting, international friendships.
