Commedia Dell'Arte workshop with Peta Lily Mon 8 & Tue 9 July 2019
'Inspirational teaching in expert hands.' - Keith Barlow, Head of Movement, Dance & Physical Theatre, Birmingham School of Acting
... For actors, improvisers, cabaret, circus, physical theatre performers and the curious. This course is open to beginners as well as those with some experience.
Discover and enjoy playing these vibrant, enduring characters: the irrepressible and joyous Arlecchino (Harlequin) the incorrigible Pulchinella (ancestor of Punch from Punch & Judy) the crotchety, Scrooge-like Pantalone the flamboyant, cowardly Capitano the pedantic charlatan - Il Dottore the unpredictable Witch the well-dodgy Brighella the bumbling Tartaglia and a delightful mask to play Columbina (traditionally unmasked) in this action-packed two-day workshop.
Commedia Dell'Arte was a tremendously popular and enduring theatre form which originated in Italy and spread its influences through France and into England, informing characters in plays by Goldoni, Moliere and Shakespeare and still relevant today.
Grow confidence, ignite imagination, open up playing range, extend physical and vocal expression and have fun playing with others.
We will have the privilege of working with a beautiful, authentically made set of masks created by master designer Alexander McPherson.
