Listen to an uplifting story of how walking helped our ex-patient Matt recover from a brain injury. With the lovely Clare Balding. . .
At the age of 23, Matt fell off a roof during a night out. He was in a coma for six weeks and, when he awoke, couldn't walk, talk or sit-up. When his voice returned, so did a determination to return to his previously active life. Walking formed a central part of his rehab; his first goal was to walk just 300 metres but by 2014 Matt had walked ...the Amsterdam Marathon which took 9 hours and 37 minutes.
In this edition of Ramblings, Matt and his mother, Anne, walk a stretch of the Centurion Way in Chichester and recall his many endeavours. The Centurion Way is a route between Chichester and West Dean which follows the line of part of the disused Chichester to Midhurst Railway.

“I started volunteering for London's Air Ambulance in 2012 after a gentleman knocked on my door signing people up for the charity's lottery. My first bucket collection was a couple of weeks later, in a rainy Trafalgar Square. It was great fun. I've been collecting at train stations, supermarkets and football grounds ever since.
“When you are out and about collecting you always come across people who have been helped by the London’s Air Ambulance team. Their stories are very moving and rewarding. These patient stories make fundraising so worthwhile.” - Ally, London's Air Ambulance Volunteer

these guys shouldn't need to be asking for donations .. they are worth their weight in gold and it should be funded by the government , less stress fr them and more strength to continue the good work they do

User

do an excellent job in helping people survive and live to see the next day. I donate and I recommend other people donate to them so that they can keep the service up and running and keep it going strong. I have a lot of time for the air ambulance and I would like to see it carry on going.

User

You guys are just amazing!.your so calm and loving the NHS should be onside youse and helping! Cos without youse many would not been here! Truly amazing tram..thank you for all your help

User

You are absolutely remarkable. I've always had a lot of time for you as service but having experienced a situation with you first hand, I honestly couldn't credit or thank you enough. Unfortunately we didn't get the result we were praying for and we lost our mum but thanks to your amazing care and quick work, we can take comfort knowing that you did all you could. I spoke to a lovely man called Mark Cooper (222) today and he was very caring and helpful and has advised myself and my family on how we can donate to your wonderful team.

You guys really are Heroes and we will be forever grateful to you x

Truly outstanding piece of flying to land on three lanes of a roundabout today, between all manner of obstacles - as always to give the patient the very best possible chance. Amazing pilot! We are in awe!!

They scooped me off if the A12 in 1995 (broken back, broken Tibia, broken Fibia, 4 broken ribs, collapsed Lung and bruised ego) physiotherapist reckoned walking again might be issue, but here I am due to the speedy reaction only made possible by these people. Dig deep and donate the cost of a pint today. It makes all the difference

Such a amazing team. My daughter was in a serious car accident last year and every doctor and medical profession that see her injuries have told her they cannot believe she survived we as a family are eternally grateful as we know it was the fast response or the air ambulance team that means i am able to tell her daily I love her. Well done to you all you really are amazing xx

User

Saved my life and without them I'd have not been here....my heroes!! Their expertise is second to none. October 2015 I got crushed by my car, roadside surgery needed, punctured both lungs, 11 broken ribs, broken vertebrae in back, shattered collar bone (and lots of nerve damage from being crushed). Intensive care and trauma ward recovering, the ward staff and physiotherapist were amazing too

Nearly two years ago and they still keep in touch with me

If you want to support them do the abseil and raise some funds I did (9 months after my accident)

User

Most of us have seen the big red helicopter flying over London and we all think how marvellous and I hope I'm never being flown to a hospital. Have you considered making a donation every month, minimum £5.00. You may never need the service but other Londoners might

User

London air ambulance are just brilliant saw them in action last night when a man on a moped was hit by a car which left the scene. The fact that you can land such a big machine in central London is amazing. The local park on Chippenham rd London w9 was used. Then you had to run to the accident with heavy bags on your backs. The man on the moped was seriously hurt and with your help and the ambulance service you got him stable enough to be taken to the hospital. Well done.

I’ve been watching it on Netflix for a week and i can’t get enough of it. I am really impress and we need this in Canada ! I’m almost at the end of the episode when REBOA was performed live on the street and this is incredible. Good job. I’m speechless.

User

Iv seen them in operation/cant believe how calm they can stay in such circumstances.

They are ace people and have my total respect and admiration.

June Bendell.

It is the best service in the world and thanks to this service I'm still alive. You never know when or who might need to call upon this service so when you see a collect please give or sign up to be a regular giver and help save lives, thank you for reading my message

User

I have nothing but praise for these guys. The air ambulance landed at my work today to attend an accident up the road. They were fantastic. I joined up to donate before christmas and today I have witnessed first hand where my donation goes. Please help keep this service going...you never know when you might need their help.

User

I have always supported this essential service it just grips me that our government doesn't fund it 100%. There is so much waste in government, but that will never take away the generosity of the public who know a worthwhile cause when the see it.

User

I experienced first hand the amazing work these teams do, responding within minutes and making a difference in my life. I will be forever grateful to a very special team that got to me on that tragic morning and helped me in the best possible way. My family, friends and myself we have no words to express the gratitude and happiness we now feel. Excellent professionals, extremely caring, great response, best outcome! Thank you.

I Would not be alive today without the London Air Ambulance. I nearly lost my life at 22 years old and because of them i have the rest of my life ahead of me and there are so many people still here today because of them.

User

From what I have seen on the TV and on the website, London's Air Ambulance is definitely a world class Medical Service. The teams work incredibly well under pressure in difficult and dangerous environments. I think that London is incredibly fortunate and very lucky to have this amazing life saving service. Please support them if you can, even if you don't live in London, you don't know that you may need them one day.
