And here is some of Jane's wonderful handiwork. A fabulous door wreath and full surround garland all hand made here at Longbourn. You are assured of a warm welcome here at Longbourn B&B at anytime of the year but this really does say"Welcome! It's Christmas!"

Jane is starting to get things in for the decoration of the house. It can only mean that we are gearing up for Christmas here at Longbourn B&B. Stay tuned here as we get the house ready for the festive season!

Well it's the 1st Day of Christmas and here at Longbourn B&B we welcome our guests at the front door with a beautiful home made Christmas Wreath! Jane has made this one with Ivy from our woods, oranges and lemons that we dried out in the Aga and Fennel seed heads from our cutting garden sprayed golden. I think you will agree that it says:"Welcome to Longbourn"

Here at Longbourn we aren't just a beautiful Country House B&B we are also a working small holding. We have sheep and chickens and Peafowl and of course we have pigs. Not just any old pigs we have rare Middle White pigs. Our breakfast bacon and sausages are all raised and grown here at Longbourn. And here is a clip of a small litter of Middle White piglets that were born here last night. Visitors are welcome to wander our small holding and see the animals, now that's something that Hotels don't offer you!!!

Winter is upon us but Jane still created lovely flower arrangements for the interior of Longbourn for our guests to enjoy. Nothing brightens up a house quite like flowers and Jane has a true gift for the creation of elegant flower arrangements. Why not come and stay at our country B&B and enjoy them and far, far more?

And how about this? A lovely balcony with beautiful views over the distant valley. Elegant outdoor living under a parasol to shield you from the sun. Why not enjoy a tea or coffee on your own private balcony? Enjoy the Summer sun and just relax and take in the peaceful stillness of the Sussex countryside. Longbourn is your quintessential country house waiting for you to come and enjoy your stay.

And the pond is no longer a green mess but is quite the blue lagoon. We have planted around with Hydrangea and Euphorbia and this area should now become quite beautiful. We feel that it certainly sets off the house. It's become a peaceful haven to sit and watch the fish and let the world go by. The pond has also been planted with 5 lovely waterlillys which will make an appearance in about August this year we think. So many changes and so many flowers to enjoy...in time.

User

And here is the culmination of the work this year on the formal garden. Another border has to be cut on the left hand side and the Hydrangeas need planting but it's almost there. Not looking too bad. The cutting Garden will soon follow and the Pond area. Exciting times in our country garden.

User

As if two massive gardening projects were not enough we are also taking on a third project (there is actually a fourth as well but we are keeping that a secret for now). The formal garden is receiving a makeover as well. The central borders will be edged and gravelled. There will be formal white hydrangea borders cut into the lawns and there maybe - over time - topiary added to the whole scene. The aim is to increase the architectural planting in this garden as well as to increase charm and formality. More pictures to follow.

It's not just the addition of a new cutting garden that is taking place here at Longbourn 1895. Our wonderful pond is also getting a makeover. The rather neglected front pond has turned into a bit of a green sludgy no go area we are sad to say. But no more!! This is the before picture and soon we will have this all cleaned, cleared and cared for. Then we can replant the entire area restock the pond and plant up with varieties of waterlilly. Returning this delightful area to what it should be: one of tranquil reflection.

User

And now the raised beds are in place. The paths can be seen and the work of returning the soil and the gravel can start. Then we can start to sow seeds and grow flowers and herbs. And guests can walk down and enjoy the peace and calm of this delightful cutting garden here at Longbourn 1895.

Owning a house, as we all know, is a constantly evolving process. This is also true of the gardens around any house. At Longbourn we have slowly been renovating, improving and extending what is here. This year it's the turn of our Cutting Garden. Flower borders and paths are being put in so that flowers can be grown and fresh flowers can be in the house the year round. A table and chairs will be in a central square and friends and guests can enjoy the flowers and sit outside in the tranquil East Sussex air. More on the progress here soon.

Here in East Sussex we have so many places to visit and things to do. We are in the heart of the South East but we are in the midst of the countryside. It's England's Green and pleasant land. If the beaches, the gardens, the National Trust Houses or the Country walks can't tempt you why not try a day out at Herstmonceaux Castle and have a day with East Sussex Falconry? We did, it was fantastic!
