Look And Sea Centre

About Look And Sea Centre

Situated off the River Arun in Littlehampton, this is where the River meets the sea and this has influenced its history and development.

Look And Sea Centre Description

Littlehampton is situated where the River Arun meets the sea and this has influenced its history and development. A harbour was first established here in the 16th century and it became a seaside destination in the 18th century. It is a place where boats are, and always have been, important. Today it has a beautiful new river promenade and a beach that is consistently rated as clean and safe. It also has the iconic Look & Sea Visitor Centre, situated on the river next to the public slipway, its tall viewing tower peering far out to sea, and its riverside restaurant serving fresh local seafood.

It is with great sadness that the Board of Look and Sea have to inform you that we have placed the business in the hands of insolvency practitioners and must cease trading.

The volunteer Board and their advisers have tried their utmost to avoid this outcome, but, sadly, our figures have been such that we are unable to see how we could continue to trade. This is not a decision we have taken lightly. You will have heard in the recent past of bigger firms than Look and Sea... having to close parts of their businesses owing to the very challenging retail environment. We are not immune from the same pressures, and have the added factor, in a seaside town, of being very weather-dependent.

We wish to thank the dedicated staff team and the volunteers and also thank the loyal customers who have supported us over many years.

Arun District Council who own the building have been informed and have been helpful and supportive, but the state of our finances means we are not in a position to continue.
We have appointed White Maund to administer the closing down of the business. For further information please contact: info@whitemaund.co.uk

We took the children to the museum part. For such a small entry fee there is lots to do for the children. It's very interactive and child friendly. The man in the visitors centre/shop was really helpful and friendly. My two really enjoyed in thank you :)

Took my two daughters (ages 11 and 6) during half term, to explore the center and to do the treasure hunt, the gentleman in the shop was very helpful and friendly, my girls had a great time, there was so much to do and see, very child friendly, will recommend to friends and family

User

Today we visited the Look & Sea centre for the Easter Egg Hunt. Brilliant fun...educational & well thought out! My 8, 6 & 2 year old loved looking for all the clues around the centre whilst learning new facts about their home town. Well done all

User

To coincide with Armed Forces Day yesterday entry to the museums and exhibits on the upper floors was free. Well worth a visit. We're very interested in war history and it was great to talk to the couple running the current WW1 display. We've eaten at the Look & Sea Centre several times and the food is always good.

User

My local weekend haunt for breakfast or lunch. Always friendly and accommodating service and super selection of fayre on offer. My first choice , especially for a nice meal by the river Arun!

User

I have been to the restraunt several times and the food and service have always been good but today they surpased themselves.

We had a pre booked party of about 50, with guides and scouts from Kenya and the UK..everything was so organised and well planned that everyone got seated and a drink within about 5 mins...the food was great (my veggy option came first which is always a pleasant surprise) and most importantly for me they happily cooked a bowl of plain rice just for my autistic son without warning and without a fuss.

Great job was dine by all the staff so a huge thank you

User

I had my 50th Birthday celebrations there on Sat 8th April. All the staff were extremely helpful during the whole event....including setting up...during(running the bar and serving food)...and clearing up at the end. I couldn't have asked for a better venue! Just amazingly wonderful and happened to be very apt as being by the waters edge for a Pirate Party! You helped to make my party even more memorable....Thank you 😃 Liz

Girlguiding Littlehampton and Arundel and Arundel scouts hired the restaurant for over 50 people on Sunday. We had a lovely 2 course meal... yummy roast beef and vegetables...followed by ice cream! This deserves 20 out of 5! Thank you to everyone Krystal and Lou in the kitchen and Della, Kayleigh and the rest of the team. Thank you also to Caroline for organising!

User

Exceptional food & a great deal with 2 courses for £9.95 The tomato & basil soup was very tasty & served with 2 hunks of bread & butter, followed by the main course of filet of haddock with leeks, on a bed of potatoes with a cheese rarebit sauce and tasted absolutely superb, also served with 2 hunks of bread & butter & salad with a lovely dressing. I would recommend this eatery for lovely food, very good portions, ambience & an amazing view & friendly staff.

User

User

Beautifully located at the edge of the River with lovely views. The breakfast was very tasty and a good price. The shop is good and Martin that runs it is excellent, very knowledgeable about the local area.

User

A nice place to have a spot of lunch sitting by the river good food and friendly staff

User

A fantastic restaurant with a great view of Littlehampton marina. It's my favourite restaurant. They do things like lasagne, mac and cheese, burgers, fish and chips, crab salad (not always available), sandwiches and the most amazing panini's in the world. I definitely recommend this place.

User

I go to dinner here every year when I'm in the area. Always a lovely place to go.

This year we were a little surprised that the tables all had no knives and forks on them and we were asked to go to the counter to order. Before the tables were always laid with nice blue serviettes and cutlery.

I went to the counter to order and was expected to pay there and then. This surprised me too as normally we paid at the end of the meal. After expressing my surprise and saying do we pay twice if we want dessert, they said we could pay at the end of the meal. They did say I had to carry the drinks to our table though.

The dinner however was delicious as always. Really delicious, very good selection which made it hard to choose.

We actually decided to come back the next evening again. So we did. This time the waitress came to the table, our drinks were brought to us, there was no mention of paying in advance or anything. Just like old times, except for the cheap and flimsy white serviettes. What happened to the blue ones? They added a bit of charm!

The second evening would have given them five stars, but I also saw the other customers going up to order and carrying their own drinks!

If you haven't been here before, you won't know the difference and then five stars for the delicious food and helpful, friendly staff would be accurate. We have the comparison, so one star less!

We will be back for sure next year!

User

Over-priced and the staff look like it’s a chore to serve you. No sugar-free cold cans available on a hot summer’s day either. Twice I’ve had poor service and I’ve only been in twice!

User

on enquiring about ingredients in dishes I was told the thai salad on the vegetarian menu contained worcestershire sauce.I politely pointed out that this meant it isn't vegetarian and was dismissively told that vegetarians don't mind about that. Counter staff were generally blunt and unhelpful.Server was lovely.
