What is a doula?. . .
The word doula originates from ancient Greek meaning "servant".
A doula is someone who provides continuous support for the whole family throughout pregnancy, birth and the early days of parenthood. They can be hired for the birth, postnatally or both. A doula does not offer any clinical support or advice. A doula is there to support your decisions without judgement. There is growing evidence that having a birth or postnatal doula has a number of benefits. From reducing intervention rates, shortening labour and improving the condition of babies at birth.
