Lower Covey Montessori Nursery

Last week, the children in the Montessori Classroom had planned to go to Forest School on Friday but unfortunately were unable to due to the high winds... So Forest School came inside!
The children looked at different leaves and learned how to identify them, looked at the parts of the leaf, made leaf crowns and conker necklaces!

Last week, the children in the Ladybirds and Dragonflies rooms were learning about chocolate!
This started by talking about where chocolate comes from and how it is made. The children went on a 'Chocolate Tree Hunt' around the outside areas at Lower Covey to see if we had any trees matching the pictures! Unfortunately, it turns out we don't!
The children then spent time looking at cocoa beans, talking about what they smelt and felt like. They then ground these up into cocoa n...ibs to see if they could create their own chocolate.
To finish off their experimenting with chocolate, the children were given 'golden tickets' to the chocolate factory and melted down chocolate and put it into moulds to create their own chocolate shapes!

Yesterday and today, the children in the Ladybirds and Dragonflies Rooms have been making chocolate goop and then playing with the farm animals in it! This makes for a great messy sensory experience for them (and smells great too!). They have been making the most of the beautiful weather and spent lots of time playing outside.
The children in the Montessori Classroom have been talking about animals and farming! They have been talking about crops and where food grows, talking about how chocolate is made with cocoa beans and sugar, role playing vets and topped it all off with a visit to our ponies! The ponies loved their visit and enjoyed being groomed by the children.

The children have had a lovely day today celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving! The children in the Montessori Classroom decorated the table themselves using leaves, a lovely pumpkin and other autumn themed items. They all sat together to enjoy their delicious roast turkey dinner, carved at the table by Fiona!
The children in the Montessori Classroom have also been churning their own butter today as part of learning about farming and where our food comes from. This is a great interactive activity that was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children.

Thank you to all of our families who donated food for our Harvest Festival collection for the Lord's Larder.
The children had a lovely time visiting church for their Harvest service and taking our donations in.

We have had a brilliant morning here at Lower Covey.
All the rooms came together to board Lower Covey Airways, with our very own crew. Captain Emily, Cabin Crew Taylor and Chief Marshal Fiona.
The Children waited patiently to board their flight, once they had shown their passports and boarding passes and had taken their seats they were given a full safety briefing before take off.
... During the flight they enjoyed a range of in flight snacks before beginning their decent back to Lower Covey.

We are now taking bookings for our summer holidays Forest School!
Join Fiona and Ben in the woods for a summer of den building, tool construction, cooking, arts and crafts, whittling and lots more!
We have three exciting trips running this year, to Charmouth Beach, Radipole Lake and an ancient woodland. We are also running an archery day which is set to be great fun!

Lower Covey Forest School is running over the Easter holidays on Tuesday 3rd, Wednesday 4th, Thursday 5th April and Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th April.
The first week will be run at our on-site Forest School area and will include a brand new special archery day on Wednesday 4th! The second week will be at our Forest School site at Vecklands Woods.
Forest School is open to all school aged children and includes a wide range of activities, including fire striki...ng, den building, flora and fauna identification, whittling, knot tying, outdoor cooking and lots more!
