About Lsesu Association Of British And Chinese University Students

The Association for British & Chinese University Students (ABACUS) is a student society initiated by a group of British-born Chinese who strive to connect students of different background, broaden their horizons in the context of Chinese culture, and celebrate Chinese heritage amongst the university student body. Founded in 1994, the Cambridge University ABACUS is the original chapter of ABACUS which has spread to universities across the UK; including London (LSE, UAL, Brunel, City, Goldsmiths, ICL, KCL, Queen Mary, SOAS, & UCL), Kent, Nottingham, Southampton, Surrey, and Warwick. There is also an Asia-Pacific Society in Oxford. Today, ABACUS is recognised as one of the biggest and most prominent Chinese student groups in the UK. Regardless of nationality and beliefs, we, the LSESU ABACUS, embrace both the Chinese and English culture. Through hosting and organising social events all throughout the year, we aim to provide a home for all overseas students and a platform to bridge the gap between students of differing background, creating mutual appreciations and a more integrated LSE community.
