An early snap of Edwin and Flora Sturdee and their children, dated c.1863. Edwin looks rather grim; he was a wine merchant at the time, but had had several career changes since the ship he was captaining for the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company in 1849 sank after “a laxity of discipline in relation to the duties of the navigation of the ship caused her position to be wrongly computed". A little bit of real-life Onedin Line.

Pity about the damage - my house is just underneath the rip at Plot 94 showing sheds at the back and a long garden (Plot 95). In 1841 when this Bow Tithe Map was published, Plot 94 was the Tradesman Inn - probably why it has such a good atmosphere for parties.
