There are no two seasons alike in farming and the last 3 months have certainly been different and extremely busy! From wet and cold to warm and wet and now lovely hay making weather. Here's some pics of a few jobs.
With half of the workforce back from yfc Blackpool weekend with hang overs let's get going! If they can party all night they can work all night ! π
Jim started maize drilling today but rain forcasted for tomorrow again the days are ticking by with slow progress, spraying days are few and far between and grass is growing fast so foraging will be starting next week.
The lads have been spreading cattle muck onto maize stubble and then itβs ploughed straight in ready for this year's maize.
Reclamping maize last week weighed over our mobile weighbridge with back loads of muck
Alan and will managed to get some acres turned over ready for maize before we had the snow
Jim and some of the lads have been busy clearing roads and towing lorries and gritters out in the last few days.
John's busy following up behind the saw blade
Last week we finally spread some muck onto land ready to be ploughed for this year's maize. This week wet again! so Jim's going through the maize drill springs just around the corner !
Tim has been busy on the saw blade since November leaving the cuttings ready for the grab on another js to clear into heaps.
We have a lot of empty chemical containers washed clean. The company that used to recycle them has finished so landfill is the cheapest and easiest option!! However this goes against my idea of good disposal!! I'm looking for any information please to turn theses plastic containers into anything useful e.g. plastic shovels buckets anything really looking forward to any suggestions please thank you.
Becky Smith took this picture today as the days get shorter
What a beautiful day to finish the season ....maize harvest completed drilling finished tomorrow spraying up to date the weather has certainly been a mixed bag over the last 3 months an early start to harvest wet September and late drilling to help with black grass control seems to have been a bit of a rollercoaster so a big thank you to ( arra Tom john Alan Matt Steve jim Bec penny David Will Joel Harris Rob Tim from the smiths π
