Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

Lovely historic hotel. Friendly helpful staff. Great views of Lake Windermere

Hotel is in a beautiful location. I think the hotel needs some work...sauna was broke during our stay and the bath tub took 20 minutes to fill with hot water because it was just a trickle. The service is below industry standard. I rang the front desk for a bottle of wine 10 times, no answer. I finally had to walk down to order the bottle and then go pick it up a half hour later. We spoke with management and that went no where.

Went here for a spa and massage. The staff were very professional and explained everything to me (I'd never had a full body massage before and didn't quite know what to expect!!). The swimming pool was nice and there are chairs around it to relax and read or chat. Great relaxing atmosphere.

We took a 3 day break here for my wife's birthday. What a spectacular location on the edge of Windermere. Beautiful views of the lake. The food was excellent. Service was impeccable. It may be a 4* hotel, but it definitely felt 5* on our visit.

The hotel has a rustic charm to it! That's great also its amazingly close to the lake with amazing views of all different kinds of birds! The rooms are nice and cozy but the food here is not up to the mark!

Very polite friendly helpful staff. Ricky the reception manager has bent over backwards to help us. We got moved to a better room as there was a heat problem in other one. Food in restaurant is amazing. Lots to choose from for breakfast

Very charming. Great view of the lake. Bed was large and comfy. Bathroom was well lit and clean. Only problem for me was loud cleaning work in the hotel that we could hear from our room.

Went as a spa guest through staying at St John's Lodge. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Towels were free to use and the pool was clean and relaxing with a beautiful view if the lake.

Enjoyed our stay. £146 for a king size Lake view with breakfast.

Booked in advance over Internet and they also gave me £10 to spend on the room.

Hotel was good. Staff polite. Room was clean and good views.

Breakfast was cooked to order so fresher than a buffet that you often get.

Toilet was square (as pictured) but my bottom is round, so a bit wierd.
