Wow!! What can i say we decided to stay for the new year as we've visited the hotel on a couple of occasions now. The reason we keep coming back is the staff especially Desi on front of reception yesterday she looked after us so well nothing was too much trouble made our new year so a big massive thank you will will be back soon!
Spa break away with my friend. Hotel grounds are gorgeous, staff friendly and food was absolutely delicious. Had a facial included with our package which was very nice. Spa facilities were good. All round wonderful break which I would return to and recommend to friends/family
Loved our stay everything perfect. All looked brand new. Room lovely. Food very good. But highest compliment goes to the staff who were friendly helpful and very welcoming. If I wanted to be picky swim pool temp was a little cool for me. We will be back x
Just had our wedding at the weekend. Perfect day, the staff at thePortal could not have done more to make sure everything went perfectly. Would recommend them to anyone. Thanks to Alison, Liam and Donna, fantastic people.
I loved the indulgent spa break, emma does the best massage ever. 3 gorgeous course dinner, cooked breakfast amazing quality and lovely spacious room. I will be back
I had a voucher for a four ball golf. Easy to book and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The bacon butty and coffee afterwards was great as well. Well done.
One helpful hint: there are 2 courses the championship you start from the main hotel. The premiership you start from the clubhouse which is at the corner with the A49. You can choose which to play.
Had a wonderful day at Portal and Tarporley town. Lovely food and very friendly hotel staff. We will be back in the future for another relaxing stay.
Had a brilliant experience last night! Had a full body massage by Emma! Which was amazing and then a 2 course meal and overnight stay! Couldn’t fault any of the staff and service and the rooms were lovely also! Would definitely recommend to all my friends and family
Had a 2 night relaxing stay with breakfast and dinner. Our son and daughter in law had their wedding reception here last year so we wanted to revisit. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff, especially Mark & Emma in the restaurant who were so friendly as was all the staff. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent. My wife and I will certainly return again, well done to all
Booked a spa night away, greeted by such a lovely receptionist, customer service on point. Room was nice, very clean so top marks there. Had a meal included and we loved it, soup tasted so fresh, gorgeous mains. Just a shame to see so many staff and so few customers but the restaurant staff were very good. I feel for this hotel though, The spa needs some attention reception wise, was abit of a farse, firstly - we were running late and tried calling 3-4 Times with no answer. When we arrived, no-one on the spa reception I literally had to shout into the messy looking office. a guy that ‘normally works in the gym’ came out and didn’t even give me a robe, I had to ask for it, then didn’t give me slippers so I was walking about bare footed, had to ask for them when I realised everyone else had them. He was nice enough though so wouldn’t want that to be a bad reflection on him but the hotel should have trained spa staff on the spa reception surely ?! Not someone thrown on. This is the first taste of the spa experience and it’s not good to get this part wrong. The rest of the spa was lovely. Could do with a hot tub and it would be perfect. Spa girls were lovely and we enjoyed our treatments. Breakfast ordered to room was missing stuff and late but they soon fixed it and gave us a late checkout. Beautiful surroundings and setting. Can tell hotel is a little dated and would have been amazing in its heyday but still - we had a lovely relaxing time and the best nights sleep I’ve had in ages.
Booked a spa day and night for myself and my friend arrived early and the receptionist was most help full our room was not available till two but they kept hold of our cases and told us to go for and enjoy the solar facilities as we were booked in for treatment had a lovely time in the spa and the pool area we then when up to check in where once again the staff were amazing and very help full. the room was not spacious and very clean with great bathroom. we went for a walk round which was lovley and the views are great, came back and got ready for out evening meal. Great resteraunt with great staff very friendly would highly recommend this hotel could fault it in anyway.
Booked a midweek spa break .room lovely and comfortable the spa was great we had a half hour treatment each then chilled in the pool and saunas.
For our evening meal we went off the a la carte as the choices on the included menu were limited and a bit plain. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
Would definitely come back it was a very relaxing experience and the staff were friendly and helpful
We had a wonderful time for my sister and friends birthday. Only problem was the breakfast was cold but they cooked us fresh ones. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them.
I was part of a group of 8 for our yearly golf trip to try out different golfing locations around the North, my first visit to Portal so on arriving and seeing the Premier Course I was looking forward to getting out on the course, great game with great friends. Back to the hotel, checked into room and down to the bar for a catch up drink, unfortunately this was to spoil the day, I was served firstly by a lovely lady who pulled me a pint of Amstel and a Dry Martini and Lemonade with a splash of lemonade from the pump dispenser charged £9.70, on returning to the bar for a second round and ordering the same, whilst talking to other guests/golfers at the bar drinks were ready I was told £11.30, asking why the price was different was told by I think was the supervisor (I was told this after) that all mixers are served in bottles, I explained what I had on my previous round and she told me that I had been served wrongly, I tried to talk to her calmly and sort out but she started serving someone else and just said I had been served wrongly, by this time I could feel myself getting a little wound up and one of my friends told me just to pay the extra. Overall my over night stay was spoilt slightly by this very rude bar supervisor as I couldn’t fault any other people from all the staff at both golf clubs, the restaurant staff in the evening and breakfast, receptionist and maids were all very helpful and polite, I will return again and hopefully meet these same lovely people, but hope the bar staff can be made aware that mixers are to add to spirits a little splash to taste, not tipped out of a bottle to remove the taste completely.
Had a lovely spar day with my sister but within the 1st hour of being here i knocked my toe on a sun lounger by the pool resulting in a broken little toe the spa lady on reception there was lovely and was so worried about me but i said its just one of those things accidents happen i wasn't going to let this spoil my day i had to leave wearing my sisters flip flops as the shoes i had brought i couldn't get back on with my toe being so swollen and bruised by the end of the day the cream tea was lovely when we got it it was booked for 4pm but didn't arrive till 4.30 apart from that a lovely day and would go back again
Came here for a relaxing break which me and my boyfriend needed. We booked for bed and breakfast and a 30 minute spa treatment which we upgraded to an hour on arrival. Our room was lovely, just a shame they gave us a room on the floor below reception. The view was just the car park and bushes (room 129), I felt like I had to keep curtains closed the whole time for privacy as people could see into the room. The maid was very helpful when I asked about the hairdryer not working (which it did in the end).
Staff were very friendly! I had my first massage whilst on this break which I really enjoyed. The spa was okay, it does need a jacuzzi. There was a selection of steam and sauna rooms and even an ice room! The shower was lovely in the spa, it’s like one of those rainforest showers. We also had a sandwich and a pint each at the bar, prices are expensive but you get a lot for your money with the food.
Breakfast was very nice and tasty. There was a great selection of hot and cold food.
On our way home after checking out we were talking about rebooking for valentine’s or the beginning of March.
However, as my boyfriend started to wash his car at home, he saw that somebody had tried to steal his wheel trims but failed due to the trims being bolted on and cracked them instead. We are gutted that this has happened as my boyfriend takes pride in his car, he has repainted it himself, making the mirrors and trims a pearly grey. But now he is going to need to buy a new trim and repaint it. This is a big pain as this car was about to be put up for sale. I rang the hotel up to see if they had CCTV, they said they would call back to let me know but I have not heard anything back. After this we will not be rebooking again.
I would recommend for people who have alarmed cars. The over night stay was overall just what we needed.
Premier course was in great condition ,club house looks a little tied but all round great day .
Booked in by work. Monday to Thursday. Really hot rooms as no air conditioning. Asked for fan but non. Food is really good and staff are friendly. Rooms are spacious and tidy, I can’t imag I’ll be going again.
Disappointed with the service in restaurant it’s very slow and you could wait all night for a drink to be offered. Menu very limited. Breakfast was just as bad waited ages for a coffee both mornings and had to chase order for toast as only received one portion when we ordered two.
Spa day was disappointing as two out of the four room where out of order, only the infrared and ice rooms working. Treatments were lovely although rooms had very thin walls and you could hear everything outside them.
Afternoon tea was a disappointment, had tried to tell them a month ago I had allergies but was told I could give them the information on check in which I did. The chef didn’t manage to supply any cakes for my afternoon tea just three deserts that weren’t even great.
Won’t be staying here again
